How about adding another # hours to all the events and deadlines? Shouldn't be that hard.

I completely agree too, but maybe we can all pray that the site is never down. Maybe Lack needs to have a back-up server (don't know if he has already).
So the problem could be solved easily.
Another possibility: All the old postings at the forum could be deleted. All the old games could be deleted, etc etc etc. This would help the database.

Not only did 3A have a great idea, but he also suggested a valid fix!
The use of a restore point could just work, there would be alot of politics and small things to be thought out and addressed but it seems like the path to follow if an update of this nature is a journey the powers that be choose to travel.

This is not an easy situation, and certainly its one the CC Team is putting a lot of thought into Im sure.
The plan right now as they have mentioned, is to get the site working, and increase capacity so that something like this doesnt happen again. Thats the first priority. Had this not happened quite so unexpectedly and so dramatically, and crashed so quickly, the situation would have been avoided completely.
In any case, the complexity of scoring resets and turning back is infinitely complex. Freezing and shutting down temporarily is probably the best solution for future such problems, simply because its a global stop, and is even throughout every game... the problem with an unexpected crash however, is that it is unexpected, so there will always be a window of uncertainty... shutting down every time there is a hiccup isnt really practical either
the problem with going back and resetting scores, and deleting games is that whiles some games were obviously changed by the missed turns, others werent at all, or not in any significant way, so the decision which games were ruined and which were not, becomes a debate on a scale, that really just is beyond comprehension...
Rest assured, Lack and all of the CC team is working on solutions to these problems. The complexity and scale does mean it may take a while, and certainly it means not every single game, player or situation can be fixed perfectly. However, the implications of this event are certainly not lost on them, and they will work very hard to fix what they can fairly, prevent it from happening again, and come up with a more uniform system to deal with such situations again, should they occur again.
We really do have to remember, CC is still in its infancy relatively speaking, and problems like this are going to occur from time to time, but that doesnt mean every effort isnt being made to prevent them. I can almost guarantee, the management is working on solutions for all of the problems that the recent server problems caused, but that it may just take some more time to work out the best solutions.
Really, my main point here, is that every effort will be made to prevent this from happening in the future, and trying to help those affected... but it will definitely take time, but it will require some understanding, and patience until this happens.

I agree! It's only fair to give the players their full time on their turn.

Luckily I was not affected by the outage, but I am sure it was frustrating for those that were. I think it's a great idea to work on a way to compensate the cc community if/when this happens again.

the only thing i have to say...(not to be a critizer) because the site is great and all but if people are paying over $20+ per year for this site and at least once a week we "cant play speed games" or the "site is down" or "maitnence is scheduled" ive never seen a website (that costs money to be a part of) have so much difficulty in keeping it up and running 24/7. And yes there will be the occasional breakdown. But that wasnt the first and im sure it wont be the last.

This is exactly what i was saying the other day b4 everyone got hostile on me, why cant lack set the server so that it records say every hour or so, and records over the save info if nothing happens, but if it does reset the server to the last saved point before the crash? that way people don't miss turns and the problem is sorted?

Masli wrote:freezing the time would be great

Absolutely.
Because then I'd never miss a turn.
I could play ConquerClub for hours and never be late for work.
My fiancee wouldn't have to complain that I spent too much time on ConquerClub.
And it would help with other things that weren't even ConquerClub related too ...
Why won't Lack be reasonable and just spend the necessary time to implement this?

Lack is always looking into making the site better. Most of this is just growing pains from CC expanding and expanding. Once we get the new server in place, we won't have to upgrade hopefully a while.
Specifically for freezing time in CC, I'm no coder so I've little idea on how it can be done, but things often are much more difficult and lengthy a process than they sound.
We've got a lot in store for CC this year...stay tuned.

Bollocks...
You do realise that 99% uptime over one year still means that the server will be down for 5256 minutes a year... which is 87.6 hours or 3.65 days.

well, like someone else said....It has been done before.
But I guess if it goes down in the middle of your turn, you would have to be pretty damn lucky to be here when time resumed lol.
I for one would appriciate time stopping during these times !!

speed games are normally reserved for premium members. Because there were so many server problems, Lack gave a few to the fremiums as a sign of goodwill, and an apology for all the trouble.
