But, I still think certain territories are not possible to acquire.
The A-row and the H-row start neutral right?
G-2 can get to H-1 and H-3 but who can attack H-2? nobody.
How can you attack H-8? You cannot unless you hold A-8 but you cannot attack territory either
You got a point there.
This is what i'm gonna do:

Remove the special c2,c7,f2 and f7 pawns.

Black blocks on the b row can attack Up and Up-Forward (North and North-East).

White blocks on the g row can attack Down and Down-Forward (South and South-East).
That gives:
b1 can attack a1 and a2
b3 can attack a3 and a4
b5 can attack a5 and a6
b7 can attack a7 and a8
g1 can attack h1 and h2
g3 can attack h3 and h4
g5 can attack h5 and h6
g7 can attack h7 and h8

Black blocks attack the northern black blocks neighbors, and withe blocks attack the southern white blocks neighbors; both diagonally.

Starting positions can only be the b-row white blocks and the g-row black spaces (forget about the random starting positions betwen b and g rows.
Tell my if you like that or if you have any suggestion please.

It's probably impossiblee but it would be cool if you could move your pieces. So it would be exactly CC chess

Java does that, XML don't... I guess...

Ok, here are the changes I've made:
-Now all the blocks are reachable.
-Rearranged the "special pawns" (now named "color pawns").
-Fixed the starting positions.
-Added black and white pawns to the empty spaces.
-Included little explanation boxes with the basic moves of the pawns.
SMALL (600x450)
LARGE (800x600)
Now, should I put some compensation for starting positions b8 and g8 since they have only 1 possible attack? (I'm thinking of a +1 bonus).

Ahh, you stole my idea fumando!
Kidding of course, chess is a popular game and I'm not surprised that someone else brought it up. Looks like you had a different gameplay idea than me.
My Chess map can be found here:

Also, whoever posted the image of my map posted the fifth draft. The sixth draft was posted a few days later and looks like this:
They didn't have the URL though, so I don't blame them.

I posted the image and the link to your post too

. It is a few messages up from yours.
It seems that there's not to much interest on chess maps man..

Sorry, I missed the link. Someone made a suggestion based on that image, which I had already fixed, but that's cleared up, I think.

I'm sure there's some interest... yours has gotten 3 pages of discussion in 4 days, and mine has more posts than most Map Ideas threads. I'm sure more interested in Chess then some foreign geographical location. Making a Chess map is hard, though, because there are so many quirks.

I would Very much Like to get a chess map created but it needs to be done the right way.... John had a lot going for his map and Fumando definitely does also but something is just not there... Maybe we can collaborate on this....... I remember when john was starting his up ... I had a few suggestions then and i think that if we make all of these ideas work it could be great.......
one thing for sure ... the board has to look like a chess game in progress.... If you place pieces in every square it just don't look right....
I have many game play ideas ...John and Fumando You already have art.... Lets put it together.... I also have an idea for 4 player chess board style map... Let me know...Unfortunately I have VERY little time to work on maps...WORK SUCKS... so let me know if your down to collaborate?

I'm open for any uncoming ideas, so, tell us about that 4 players game idea of yours.
Maybe the target of the game should be to keep both kings at the begining of each round.
And yes, a started chess game will look more real, but lets find the places where pieces should be placed.

I've taken enough initiative to notice the poll is out of time. So it's gone. Here are the results:
What do you think?I like it. 90% [ 10 ]
Change the bonus system. 0% [ 0 ]
Change some movements. 0% [ 0 ]
Not what I expected. 9% [ 1 ]

just one question about the a and h rows: can the special pieces attack eachother, or can only pawns do that?

Nope, just the ones shown on the advanced moves are allowed.

Oh, it's a shame, but there seems to be no more interest on this map so I'll leave it alone...
Damn, it's very hard to fit the eyes of the CC-ians, but that's OK, that's why this site is the best of its kind.
Thanks for the note bryguy
