I basically agree with nearly ALL on this page.

The actual splashdown of the NASA SpaceX Crew-9 craft was great to watch; the white parachutes agains the blue sky was very nice to watch. The above video is only 13:25 long, one of the shortest videos I could find to post here.

One of the many impressive parts of the entire operation is that the crew and ship itself were recovered by SpaceX ships; the US Navy was not directly involved, as was the Apollo and Mercury vessels (ships). I think the rocket that put the capsule into space was returned to be re-used is also impressive, from the perspective of someone who watched many rocket launches live, including some of the Apollo missions.

Gilligan's satellite TV show, or at least a short and funny satirical show would be funny. I am not sure there can be enough interest to make it really a "Classic" as was Gilligan's Island in the 1960's.

I saw idiotic car at the gym, the guy regularly writes pro-Trump messages on his back window.

The message on his car today was claiming that “Trump saved the Astronauts”.

I just shake my head. There’s no ability to have a logical conversation with someone this far gone.

I think the main point about the Dems under Biden is that they did not make the return of the stranded astronauts a priority. The only real option for their return was SpaceX and they did not want to give Elon Musk, a Trump supporter, another feather in his cap for him to wave it in their face.

The decision to have them come home with Crew 8 was made while Biden was still in office.

Yes, and there was no priority, no desire, no push, and no motivation for their return any sooner, as I stated.

"drift" is a bit misleading. That implies NO gravity.

When drifting on a raft in the ocean, motion is mostly due to ocean currents and perhaps winds (a bit, anyway).

There is some gravity (89% of that on earth's surface) on the ISS, but it is negated by the forward motion of station itself. The movement of the ISS around the earth gives it "natural motion" as it orbits around the earth. The result is a microgravity environment for the astronauts there, and that is intentional.

So, the ISS is not drifting (imo), but undergoing free fall as it orbits (and moves forward towards) the earth.

And no need. When a perfectly good bus ride is already scheduled, only someone with more money than brains will call a cab. Or did you want them to blow up the budget to organize some "emergency mission" when there was no real emergency?

I thought you were against waste.

No point.

They likely could’ve made the decision to return the astronauts on the Starliner.
It wound up returning safely.

Out of AN ABUNDANCE OF CAUTION they decide to have the Astronauts wait for the next scheduled Space-X flight.

The idea that they were “abandoned” or anything like that is just BS spin.

You calling me a Troglodyte does NOT address Dukes point in any way. You just repeat the same “Ultra Super Right” talking points of Trump and Co.

These PROFESSIONALS knew what they were signing up for and RISKING when they agreed to go up to the Space Station in the first place. There are many risks… they can die, they can get stuck up there longer than expected, they have to deal with the rigors of launch, space travel, and possibly extended stays in Space.

The idea that they were “abandoned” ignores that fact that there were several other astronauts on board as part of other regularly scheduled missions. The idea that they were “abandoned” ignores the fact that astronauts routinely stay on the space station for 6-12 months. The idea that they were “abandoned” ignores the fact that there was plenty of air, water, food, electricity to support them. The image being presented by Trump and Co. does NOT match reality.

The often quoted “They only got $5/day” is just an outright lie. The TRUTH is they got an “additional” $5/day stipend… which honestly seems silly. That is in ADDITION to their regular salaries, which is in excess of $150K/year. Never mind the fact that Astronauts don’t typically become Astronauts to get rich… they do it for glory, challenge, etc.

The Narrative does NOT match the facts.

Odd that JimB presents MOST of his post disagreeing with ConfedSS, but does not quote him.

JimB said:

I do not recall Trump using ANY of my statements, nouns, or adjectives. It appears that you, jumbo jimbo, missed the point, AGAIN. It is almost HOPELESS to expect anything better from you, unless we talk about nuts and bolts.

I am using your own method to respond, by responding to your profanity laced comment with a more eloquent INSULT that OBVIOUSLY hits its target.

And what point did Duk make that I failed to address? I contend that I hit that point ON ITS head: directly, lucidly, succinctly, and cogently.
