Or perhaps your talking about the Russia which overran the Baltic States and again murdered or sent to the Gulags another million or so. Maybe your thinking about the Russia which murdered or starved to death an estimated 30 to 50 million of its own citizens between the world wars. I give up I cant read your mind.
I know what he's gonna say...that it was all the Stalinist USSR, not Russia

Do you mean the same Poland which, in 1938, helped dismember Czechoslovakia with Nazi Germany?
Or was this the Poland that, in 1921, launched a wild, opportunistic land grab against the Soviet Union (a land grab that, in 1939, the USSR reversed)?
The Russia I'm talking about is the one that sacrificed 60 million people to defeat Nazism while the USA and UK were playing duck and cover and the French were making out with their sisters while waiting to be rescued.

There's also the Republic of Russia, an island off the coast of mainland Russia which has been held under the control of the ousted Soviet government ever since their downfall and which foreigners keep declaring is an independent country despite the fact that international law does not recognize it as such.

remember that germany before WW1 had +40% population compared to france. France lost 5% of its population during WW1.
We were still outnumbered by 40% compared to germany before WW2, and "just" lost 1,5% of our population there.
Say the US and Canada are in a conflict during that period of time. The US population back then was 130M. Suppose Canada had 180M and launched a blitzkrieg on the US, you guys wouldn't have lasted much.

The USSR lost 15% of its population and never surrendered.

I'm still wondering how things that Stalin's Soviet Union did are relevant to a discussion about Russia's involvement in Syria.

This thread is the latest example in a long list of examples that show most Permanent Members of the Security Council are not fit to serve. waauw and llama turned it into a discussion of China, not me.

Yep, good job hitting one of the places that does NOT have ISIS forces and has been actively fighting AGAINST ISIS.
Pierre Elliot Trudeau did that when Putin was still at junior spy school.

How many of those were killed by their own people I wonder? It is a known fact that the NKVD shot any Russian troop that hesitated going into battle against the Germans. How many citizens were killed by their own troops? How many officers were purged by Stalin? What percentage does this make of your alleged 15%?
Russia freed many people that were in their gulags to help fight Nazi Germany such as Polish soldiers that were taken when they annexed the eastern part of Poland. Do these people count in the 15%?
What about forced conscripts such as POWS captured in Asia, and then brought west to fight Germany? There was one Korean man conscripted by the Japanese, who was then captured by the Russians, then captured by the Germans, then captured by the Allies in France. He lived out his days after the war in the US.

No need to panic about Russia's involvement in Syria. Let them spend their national treasures [fast dwindling with low oil and gas prices] on supporting Assad. Russia's standard of living will continue sinking and we will see who gives who the finger.

This is why Lincoln Chafee is a more legitimate progressive candidate than Bernie with his pro-Zionist, pro-Western Hegemony, pro-War beliefs. Bernie is a tool of the Transnational Historic Bloc who exists purely to whip-up progressive support and obliterate attention from legitimate alternatives to Hillary. Then, when his campaign inevitably implodes, those supporters will be seamlessly transitioned to the Hillary camp.
Chafee has said one of the U.S.' highest priorities should be improving relations with the Russian Federation and has called for rapprochement, including the lifting of sanctions against Russia. He has called the Ukrainian crisis a "tug-of-war between Russia and the EU" and said that the way to solve the issue was through Russian accession to the European Union.

More about the disgusting itinerant fascist warmonger Bernie Sanders from Counter-Punch -
Even so, while Bernie may come across as sincere about class politics, make no mistake, he is a militarist that isn’t about to challenge U.S. supremacy. He supported the ugly war on Kosovo, the invasion of Afghanistan, funding for the endless Iraq disaster as well as the losing and misguided War on Terror. He voted in favor of Clinton’s 1996 Anti-Terrorism and Effective Death Penalty Act, which expanded the federal death penalty and acted as the precursor to the PATRIOT Act.
As for Israel, Bernie has been a hawkish advocate that would never halt the $3 billion the U.S. government sends to the country every year. Last summer he backed Israel’s murderous bombing of Gaza. He’s even had some nasty words about Palestine’s right to resist. It shouldn’t come as a surprise then that several former members of Bernie’s staff have also been employed by AIPAC, including Israel apologists David Sirota and Joel Barkin. His is a disgusting record. Want to change in the U.S.’s meddling in the Middle East? Bernie isn’t your guy.
