You might as well pretend you are a brand new player. Look into the SOC, if you like the standard design (similar to the old board game, though not exactly, of course). If you like more unusual maps or want to try some of the newer options, I suggest playing a few 1 on 1 games. Its a good way to get a handle on the rules and how the new options work without such a huge time commitment. Of course, strategies for multiple player games differ from 1 vs 1, but that way you are least know the maps first.

He's obviously a general with cold feet to lose some points and you're suggesting options that could get him hammered by low rankers. How about you look at your sorry ass score before thinking your advise could have any relevance? I'm totally with caff on this. You don't know what maintaining a big score means... on average a win means way more than 20pts for you and a loss way less than 20.
