I shall celebrate the 4th by watching World Cup football and listening to the Rage Against the Machine album while cutting my grass.

The question is whether or not I'm proud to be a New Yorker. True fact, the city of Toronto was originally called "York." They changed its name because New York ruined the fine name of York and they didn't want to be lumped with those losers.

Anywho, I am going to celebrate the 4th on the 1st in Canada.
Happy 4th to my US friends.
Yeah, it may not be good to have the kind of pride that makes someone think they're better than everyone else in this case, but it can mean different things to people. For example, Black Pride isn't about being extremely accomplished at producing melanin, it's about having self worth, a sense of belonging, and a solidarity among those who go though the same trials as oneself. Counter-productive or not, many people crave meaning in their lives, and regardless of the race, class, sexuality, or nationality they are born as, they want to feel accepted.Army of GOD wrote:I never understood being proud about one's nationality.
I'm proud of things that I've achieved, e.g. winning a sporting event, getting a job, etc.
Being proud about being from a country is like being proud that you can shit your pants.
White pride on the other hand is awful and needs to be eradicated. Am I right?/ wrote:You too!macbone wrote:Good to see you, /. =)

As per the poll, anyone you thinks they are American are American.

All the same, I'm more likely to accidentally blow some fingers off than go into a full blown social alienation discussion.
Not really. No one should be ashamed of what they were born as. The American ideal I am proud of claims that all men are created equal. I want to believe in that, and hope that is someday realized for men AND women born of every sort. White people have been born just as good as everyone else, and should be proud of it. All pride is only awful when it is used as a vehicle to put others down, preaching that we are not equals and cannot live together; accepting each other for who we are.Gillipig wrote: White pride on the other hand is awful and needs to be eradicated. It would suck even more to be as ignorant as you are. The only thing I said is there are consequences, and they are clear as daylight to anyone who gives an ounce of thought to their actions and their policies. You seem to be saying there are no consequences, but that's only because you're dumb as shit. If you just kept to yourself with your stupidity I wouldn't have a problem, and it blows my mind how people like you who know so little about issues can be so passionate about those issues.DaGip wrote:I'm not proud that Phatty's not proud.Phatscotty wrote:I'm not proud of the America we are leaving for the next generation. Your grandkids will all be on the welfare in the future, so don't worry about that mountain of debt. I and my ilk will eventually convert all your childrens to some Socialistic-hybrid that is dependent on "The Thing"; meanwhile, the rest of their superstitious barbarian grandparents will die off in fear of the sins they left behind.
It really sucks to harbor such shame.
Which is where the real racism of our time exists, as I stated elsewhere recently. Only minorities can be proud of their heritage and traditions and their race, but when it comes to white people, 'oh no you don't! you can't do that because you are white!" When it comes to Christians trying to practice their religion freely 'oh no you don't! Our courts only protect non-Christians religion!" When it comes to American citizenship "oh no you don't feel proud to be an American! there is nothing special about America" but when it comes to illegal immigration, all of a sudden "they have every right and deserve to be American, and only they can be proud."Gillipig wrote:White pride on the other hand is awful and needs to be eradicated. Why do you pretend to be surprised? It's a fact America has a long and honored tradition of leaving the next generation a better America that was left to them; and it's also a fact that is no longer true. Bottom line; they simply don't give a shit anymore.notyou2 wrote:Sooooo, 12% of American citizens are not proud to be American citizens.
WOW!
So...not proud I take it.Phatscotty wrote:It would suck even more to be as ignorant as you are. Case in point: America is losing millions more jobs every year than America is creating, and yes fiscal Progressivism is at the heart of that issue. How long do you think that can continue without having severe consequences? Oh, our children will just go on welfare? Where the F do you think that welfare money comes from? Do you really not understand that welfare money is only possible when an economy thrives? Let me guess your response: we can just print all the money we need, which is what we are doing now. But that cannot continue forever either without doubling and tripling gasoline and milk prices. Because that is exactly what printing money does; it destroys our money's purchasing power. So go ahead, pretend there are no consequences and shrug it off as your children can go on welfare and be dominated by Socialism. All you will have is free money that buys less and less.
Classic example of how Progressives and their policies have destroying our economy: with a shit eating grin on their faces. So go ahead, purposefully damn your children to welfare and Socialism, as if that was what made America great. And when they ask you what happened to the land of opportunity, take responsibility and tell the truth; that you spent all their money on yourself. More likely you will bullshit them and just blame it on Republicans, of course without any real conversation. Cuz that's all you're good at.
If that was true then unemployment would be rising several % points every year.PhatScotty wrote:America is losing millions more jobs every year than America is creating
That would seem correct, until you compare that with the % of American's working. This chart is a tad old, right now the labor participation rate is 58%.mrswdk wrote:If that was true then unemployment would be rising several % points every year.PhatScotty wrote:America is losing millions more jobs every year than America is creating

So the next question is: How can the labor force be dropping so drastically, and unemployment dropping at the same time?
