If Englands so rubbish, why do we have to spend billions subsidising the Welsh, Scottish and Northern Ireland because your so lame you can't reate a decent economy If you're so great why don't you support yourselves.

Face it, the Welsh and the Scots are the underclass of Great Britian, not even fit to clean our boots.

both qualified arguments obviously. with the amount of knowledge and research shown in your statements i can only assume that you are both PhD graduates with some amazing proficiency in historical fact and unsurpassed eloquence with the written word. you should both be proud.

i love wales. it is great. my avatar is used as the welsh flag(without my permission, but i don't mind) and we are the best in the world at speaking welsh.
i know lots of welsh people. some of them don't like the english. big deal.
get over it.
we beat them at rugby this year. :P

So are you trying to say that Wales has a self sufficient economy and revenue generated from English tax payers and business is not used to subsidise you scrounging sheep shaggers?

You are obviously very patriotic about your country, and you have every right to be so, although I'm not sure what the Welsh have to be prond of. The sooner England gets devolution the better and you can go back to the dark ages where you belong.

seeing as we are all european now with more and more decisions being made centrally in brussels - big whoop.
i have never shagged a sheep. while sober.
our national anthemis awesome. fact.

i am pretty sure that great britain was built and subsidised on the welsh coal valleys, so you can stick that lan eich pen-ol.

This is a factually wrong statemet and only a completely subjective idiot would believe that this is the case, where in fact the Welsh mining was subsidised a lot to ensure there was emplyment in the area. It is similar to the Scottish argument of using their North Sea Oil (which isnlt actually theire anyway), however the UK economy was first built on advantageous trade to what were then our colonies, and not is built on our financial centres in London.

Wales have leached off the English for centurys, and continue to do so. The sooner we get rid of you pricks, the better. I for one can;t abide the Welsh, at least the Scottish have contributed a bit to the country with people such as Alex Scott and Graham Alexander Bell.

Wales is a no mark country, although it has a high national identity amoung it's population, it contributes nothing to the UK, Europe, or the World.

Scotland may take a little mroe money than they have earned but the education system is one of the best and our NHS is the ebst in the UK (even thou its still a mess ;)) scotlan also have a really intresting and exciting history.

England however i wouldnt say is overrated.

I think American English has been taken over by the stupid hip hop artists and rappers. Anyone who attempts to speak proper English over here is ridiculed.

Whenever I watch something on TV about the Welsh, Irish, or Scottish I am intrigued by it. Is there still a lot of lingering resentment over English rule? I admit I'm not proficient in English history.

subsidised mining? leaching off the 'english'. don't be a complete bigotted idiot. how much wealth was taken from wales during the industrial age? millions of pounds of worth at 1800s prices.
you have some serious problems if you want to just slur on someones birthplace, especially as we seem like such an irritant to you.
did a welsh man sleep with your wife? are you jealous of our rugged good looks? are you allergic to leeks? frightened of sheep?

in the last two or three posts you have been ''english bashing''

gethine, removing millions of pounds really isnt a great deal of money to an economy nowadays. considering most things are measured in billions its only a small percentage.

it has always seemed to me that the scots and welsh resent the english far more than most english people resent them. whenever i see a rugby match on with scotland or wales i support them (as long as not against england) yet the complete opposite would happen if the positions were reversed.

i have nothing against welsh or scottish people, its just the amount of moaning that comes from them about the english is insane! everyone is currently only looking at the argument from their own side, which i initially did (i had a bad day and was annoyed) but now having taken a step back and thought about it we may all have contributed equally, just now its englands turn to make the largest contribution......this in the future may well change. but as i understand it at the moment this fact is undisputable.

Yes, England is over ratted.

Only the other day I saw a huge one running down the Embankment with a pizza slice in its mouth, pausing its headlong theify plunge only to kick a blind granny in the vegetables.

When oh when oh when will our police stop this rodent scourge?

EDIT: Oh. Right. Sorry.

No, England's great. The most beautiful island in the world apparently, accoridng to the Lonely Planet guide. And I like Scotland and Wales and Ireland too, when they're not being nationalistic and backwards.

Seemed to have touched a raw nerve there. Yes the Scots have contributed the likes of the telephone and television to modern society, but at present they do not contribute much to the United Kindom. In fact, Scottish people recieve 28% more in subsides and handouts per head than those in England.

It you want to be childish with your blind patriotism, then why was Glasgow so happy to accept the 20,000 new financial jobs created there on the back of Londons economic centre.

The Scots are a strange race who always blame us for invading them. You forget that it was Scotland who were the agressors, but simply lost, and the price you have had to pay is being paid for. Not a nad deal, yet you still whine and complain that you are dealt a poor hand.

can i just say that big ern please learn to type english, i am very pissed off with some people on this thread. england is sometimes overated but so what, we in britain need each other. i have said it in threads before, the scottish (my family are from scotland) have discovered and invented numerous things that everyone uses today. the welsh gave us max boyce, tomjones and a shit load of coal (also charlotte church, very nice and buxom). northern ireland gave us one of the best footballers of the world in george best (even though he played for munich he was still a genius) and also graham norton  .

to alex white, if england was so good why f*ck off to the middle east.
i am a scotland fan, i want england to get beat in everything except fighting. if there is an english golfer or athlete i will want that person to win most of the time though.

What the f*ck are you talking about? I didn't bash England. I didn't say all English, I said all English dumbfucks, denoting those ignorant uneducated halfwits like "big" Ern.

I actually quite like England, and have a particular soft spot for Oxford. Probably in my top three most favourite places that I have been to, and I get around.

I have met lots of Englishmen that have irritated the hell out of me, but I've met lots of Scots who have done the same, moreso, as I have met more scots.

i had a choice, be homless and live in england, or move here and live with my parents, my only living relatives, and at the age of 14 i didnt have much of a choice. so please dont be so much of an arse about that. not all the choices in my life have been easy due to a few events which im not going to elaborate on. but the end result has been that i live here. england is still my home and when i can get back i will do.

Bollocks. It's never been possible to quantify exactly how much "subsidy" each part of the UK gets, because most government spending doesn't get reported on a country-by-country basis.

I've a strong suspicion that, given how centralised the government is, London is not only the richest part of the UK, it also gets the lion's share of govt spending per capita. Also, the area where I live, the North-East is the poorest part of the UK, and I'd bet my bottom dollar that it also gets the least share of govt spending per capita.

'Course I can't prove any of that, no matter how much Googling and research I do, because it's unprovable. But, never mind, you just carry on with your little fantasies of hard-done-by Sassenachs.

I myself am born in England, am half welsh, have a scottish uncle and have many friends who are irish, and while frankly I would say that Wales isn't a place I'd pick to go on holiday, it has certain ups to it (mostly cultural ones which admittedly I tend to depreciate). Doesn't mean England is overrated, though.

Yes, because my previous post suggests that I am blindly patriotic. Well actually it doesn't. Your posts, however, scream out with ignorance. You clearly have no idea what the f*ck you are talking about. You've probably seen somebody else argue this(badly, by the way), and you wish to twist my words so that they counter what "your" side of the argument should be.

As stated before, England subsidises Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland simply as these countries can't economically stand on their own 2 feet. We have done it in the past, and will no doubt continue to do it in the future, even though we face resentment from them for doing so.

Yes, Scotland has produced certain individuals who have contributed greatly to modern advancements in communication and visual entertainment, but the fact remains we still have to pay out taxes to support you, and as an Englishman, I would be happy for England to get devolution so you can fend for yourselves, so we can stop footing the bill for a bigoted third world country

if you can not see the location where i live you prick. it says lancashire not lanarkshire which is in scotland. have you ever been to scotland. if you go in the pubs and clubs in glasgow everyone is friendly with you because of my english accent(my brother even though born in scotland lived there for 6 months still puts on a fake scottish accent).
