It's not based in America.

The technicality more or less comes down to that each player's signature contained not only a picture of them self, but also of the others clan members. They all had the same picture which contained all of individual pictures.

Seems ridiculous and like some mod was on a power hunger trip when they did that. If nobody in the said picture had any complaints about other people using it then conquerclub should not have cared or stepped in.

For a website based in America, the freedom of speech and information on this site is severely lacking IMO

yeah, there was stuff going on at the time... another dark period in CC's past, kind of like the one we are going through now with all the issues i will not post/discuss here... however, the clan was unbanned and the sig is still seen from time to time in the forums when a member gets nostalgic...-el Jesus negro

It was before my time, but my understanding from reading the old thread was that the mod in question had simply run out of patience with the people involved. I'm sure you've seen people fly off the handle when they've been irritated for a long time and just one more little thing, insignificant by itself, pushes them over the edge?

Canada, to be specific, but the legal environment is similar. Cyberstalking and cyberbullying are serious issues that are leading to larger and larger lawsuits. Unless the nature of the website is such that it requires the exchange of personal information, it just makes sense to avoid the liabilities and protect users' anonymity.

World’s Foremost Risk Players Named: Conquer Club Produces and Celebrates Top Tournament Risk Players

Westmount, Canada, January 10, 2012 --(PR.com)-- The top spot was claimed by Jacob Lowenstein, aka “jleaux,” of Toledo, OH.

and when you google that info you get just about everything you could ever want to know about the guy... just sayin... funny how we have gone from banning an entire clan for posting their own personal pics in their clan sig to allowing the posting of names and cities, etc within the forums... just seems to be a real disconnect within the forums about what is and isn't against the rules...-el Jesus negro

Wait, wait.. back up. Someone got banned for posting a picture of themselves in their signature? That sounds absurd.

You'll have to ask Owen. I only found that thread last time because he posted the link.

Personal information is personal information. It is never allowed to be posted on CC. If I were to type out my physical address here in this thread, and someone were to copy it into a thread in OT, according to the rules, that person would be subject to punishment. The information we are talking about in this thread was not available on CC prior to this thread.

I understand that there was a press release. There is information about me available on the internet as well. That doesn't mean it can be posted on this site. According to the guidelines, the link and story should be edited out of this thread. The only person who is allowed to post it is jleaux himself, and then, only at his choosing. Anyone can google his name and discover the information now, but that is beside the point - the point is, it's against the rules for it to be posted here, by anyone other than jleaux.

I'd just like to clarify a couple of items, since it seems like there is some honest confusion in this topic. In regards to the Conquer Cup,

  • We've been experimenting with a number of free and paid press release services, and Conquer Cup II's press release will go another route.
  • We've also been experimenting with different prizes, and going forward after Conquer Cup II, we'll be taking the press release out as a prize, since it doesn't seem to have generated much interest, and as cool as the press release is or can be, players are obviously playing more for the fun aspects and the chance of tangible prizes.
  • Though the press release is technically 'off-site'---you can effectively think of it as an officially related to our website and as such, the information there-within posted by myself or Lackattack, so no worries about personal information abuse, knowingly or unknowingly. We asked Jleaux if the personal information was alright to include, and he consented.

I am glad that our community is concerned about personal information abuse. :)

Best,

--Andy

Owen is right. Posting a user's real name is against the rules, even if it's done with good intentions, even if they give consent, even if there's been a press release. The forum mods ruthlessly edit out the real name of the Conqueror when it pops up, even though it's now common knowlege and there really isn't any chance of putting the genie back in the bottle.

I wouldn't be opposed to changing the rules to allow for stuff like this, but as they presently stand this is not allowed, even with the best intentions. The words "Anywhere. Ever." are rather absolute.

Hahaha! He even wrote the rules, and he broke them.

When does the punishment happen?

I've been asking that for a long time.
