I remember reading an article that an average NFL team is worth something like 1 Billion USD. The cost to buy the team, however, is probably less, but jeez.

I don't know, maybe the NFL is more profitable as a whole, but I think some teams like the Jags or the Bills are unprofitable. There's been talk about moving a team to LA for years now, and they keep coming up as possible relocation targets.

I just read the following description/explanation of what an American football "wide reciever" is/does. I don't know if the guy is a fan or not, but this is awesome...it reminds me a great deal of my "Blood Bowl" game:

"I think it's US "Football". They stand at the outside of the scrummage line, then when the ball is popped, they run wide, and deep, and catch the pumpkin thrown by the quatroback.
I don't think the opposing tribe are allowed to topple the wide receiver until he has snatched the pumpkin.
And, I think members of his own team are allowed to mess with the other tribe members who are trying to get to the wide receiver.
Once the wide receiver snatches the pumpkin, (but only before it hits the ground) he can run with it, or be killed by the other tribe members. Or both."
