There are already greasemonkey scripts for this if desired.
lack should not want it to be an option though though since it'd be a huge bandwidth hog even if only a small portion of players use it (especially without caching).

Im new and i dont know if this has been posted before, but i think that it would make alot of sense to automaically refresh the page so that you dont have to manualy click refresh.

I would like to see an auto refresh on the map and the next number of armies for a set of cards.

auto refresh?
why not hit refresh in the top.
and army numbers for the next card set, I assume you mean in escalating, well just look at the last set and you will know what you get

Autorefresh would suck in freestyle if someone else is playing at the same time as you, then it would keep refreshing and would be shrd to take your turn.
More importantly this has been sugested before, search before making a new sugestion.

i wonder, rather than an auto refresh, how hard it would be to introduce a way that you can watch teh game upfold withuot having to refesh ever 3 seconds.
there nothing worst that in freestyle RT when you need to refresh to watch for your turn starting.
No more refreshing

I just played an rt 1vs1 game and it was kinda annoying having to refresh every second. Theres gotta be a way that the map can update itself..maybe auto-refresh every 10 seconds? I don't know just something that will make this less of an annoyance.
edit: No auto-refresh if taking turn though.

I don't know much about PHP coding...but I use a javascript in cgi and pl scripts in the header and you can set it to refresh however often you want...of course it would have to be directed to only 1v1 games....so it doesn't screw up other "non" 1v1 games..
I play alot of 1v1 that usually are rt...and I agree it would be better

Refreshing the page every 10 seconds would put way too much load on the server.
A technique that would work is called AJAX. It's how stuff like Google Maps works. It would involve a whole lot of coding to do, and I'm sure there are other changes that are higher priority...

An Ajax system is in the works.

The problem with Ajax - it would know what you had done - but it would have no knowledge of the other player(s) - without a server call.

I don't know what it is, but I would assume you could find some good information here:
Wikipedia
Edit:
The web address won't work. Copy/Paste it

During a recent and my only speed game to date...

the auto refresh caused me to place troops in the wrong country and at the wrong amount!!!!
as I was choosing my deployment country, the "refresh" set my troops back to total count and pick the country by alphabet default...
I am not complaining because it cost me the game or anything, just wanted to share the frustration and that I am very shy of the speed game till it gets fixed. Thanks!

Maybe auto refresh should be turned off when you start a turn (and back on when your turn is over). Because during your turn (unless it's freestyle), only you can update the state of the game. Therefore there's no point in auto refreshing when you're playing.
Plus I think the intention of the auto refresh is for the people waiting for their turns to come up.

is this fact or sugestion, if it is sugestion it is a good idea

Kinetic1, if you were mid turn during a refresh you should always check that you have the right choices before clicking submit.
Not refreshing during your turn would solve the problem. Of course, a big part of freestyle speed games is tactical waiting, and it's nice to have auto-refresh when you're waiting for right moment.
I wonder which is the lesser of two evils???

I vote leave it how it is, like the bold part above.
Leave refreshing as it is now.

Okay you are not understanding me, I DID check my choices, I always double check, however 15 secs is a short time to make a selection, thnk about it, and then have the auto refresh undo what I have just done.
I thought AJAX only refreshed the part of the website you need refreshed,
Why do these drop menus need refreshed every 15secs????

If you are playing a freestyle game, the territories you own and the places that you can attack from each may change during the 15 seconds. So the drop downs refresh to update.

Perhaps the refresh should occur as usual, except the action form will not updated if it remains in deploy/attack/fortify mode

Kinetic1, was your speed game freestyle?
Personally I don't play freestyle or speed games, and I turned off ajax (i'm using Tr0y's script

), and I haven't had any problem with auto refresh. But I see where you're coming from.

That won't work - the refresh might make different options available (in Freestyle if someone's killed some armies etc)...
I vote that...
Auto Refresh be OFF in Sequential mode...
On in Freestyle mode...
A way to get round this is...
1) Code so that the refresh tries to revert to previously selected options.
2) Have "please select" at the top... so if previously selected options no longer available - revert to that - therefore you will get illegal move error - instead of an incorrect deploy, attack, fortify.
