The date was November 23rd, 1947. As the first flecks of snow of the season began to fall on the industrial city, the dawning sun barely shone on the overcast horizon. Far brighter was the burning church, set aflame only moments before the sun's rise. The large cathedral, along with the kind priest who lived inside, was a sign of peace among the citizens of New Briarsburg. Even as the crime rate rose in the city, all of the citizens still gathered every sunday morning to hear the kind words of the elderly priest.

But as the fire was extinguished, so were the ideals of the kind old man's. The town gathered in silence around the church, still dressed in their pajamas and nightgowns, quietly mourning the loss of the town's most respected member, Father Rosen.

Only an hour later, Mayor Chewman stood on the steps of the corpse that was the church. He addressed the throngs of people before him, "Today we lost more than a building. Today we lost more than one life. Today, the perpetrators of this heinous crime stole from us the one place of peace this city had left. They stole away the one man who could have brought joy amongst the hatred, hope amongst the despair, and unity amongst all divisions. But I say that this crime shall not go unpunished! If the wicked among us reject the peace that this man offered, then we shall bring them war! I vow that by the time spring comes to our city these factions of hate shall be brought to justice and punished for their acts against us, against our town, and against the servants of God himself!"

With a loud cheer from the crowds, the mayor stepped down. The town was united, but they knew not how terrible the coming war would be...
