Depends. If the blood vessels in your neck are squeezed shut (sleep hold/triangle), then after a matter of seconds (depending on how tight it is applied), you black out, and after about 7-20 seconds (somewhere in between there) you are dead. Though if released right after passing out, you only feel as if you were in a heavy sleep. It doesn't even hurt, as the lack of oxygen doesn't even have time to be felt. So if there is one very painless way to go, that would be it.

fair enough, under duress of torture you probably know you're going to die, and die painfully at that. all the same i just can't see anything worse than that one helpless moment when descent and velocity become manifestly real; the heart seizes and the concrete looms.

Actually, I was watching a Ripley's show a while back, and it showed that a woman had gone sky-diving, her parachute wouldn't open, went ker-splat, and survived. Horribly injured, but alive. So, the fall itself would not be the cause of death itself.

I imagine the Russian sailors who survived the initial explosion aboard the submarine Kursk must have died very unpleasantly. Confined in a small compartment over a hundred meters underwater with oxygen slowly running out and cold water gradually seeping in. That must have been horrifying.

buried alive is my one big fear.That or a few of the public executions would be horrible.Like the gullitione or hanging where you dont break your neck and suffocate to death while swinging on the rope.Being whipped to death would be horrifying too.

IDK if this is true, but in grade school we would talk about some king of England that was executed publicly by inserting a tube into his ass and then having a glowing metal rod slid up the tube and into his lower intestines. Sounds horrible to me. We always used to joke around that it was because the king was gay, it was a Catholic school, go figure.

Chinese Bamboo torture has to be the most painful way to die. You are tied horizontally and stretched out. then sharpened bamboo grows through you cant imagine a more painful way to die

There is nothing peaceful in Drowning,you cannot fight Human Nature(instinct to survive) you would fight and would be scared as shit,burning may be a bit harsh at first but wouldn't your body go into shock?

I almost drowned when I was at Disney World as a kid. All I remember is having a sense of peace as I drifted to the bottom of the pool.
