Incandenza wrote:All right, all right, let's just chill out a bit. No need for invective here.

Besides, I think everyone can agree that PRESENTLY, Bama < BC, and that jake is, in fact, ignorant. :D

This was the only fact i was trying to prove, no need to get all upity and say "your stupid for not knowing my team' coach..."

And Jake is slightly ignorant, but the BOTTOM FEEDING BC Eagles did beat #8 Virginia Tech, so I dont know how far down the barrel we needed to go...

As for getting killed by a pitch, I really dont have a clue, all that comes to mind is seeing Kirby Puckett getting blasted in the eye and Randy Johnson hitting that bird...

Was it the bird? :D

Tell you when somebody gets it right. Keep on guessing. Oh and I clarified the question a bit.

Didn't this happen to some reasonably obscure player in like the 40's?

And I love me some invective too, neph. Just don't want to see this thread get too flame wars-ish. :D

the last thing i'll say is GK would be uppity too if he had a real team

it's flat insulting to have the pride of dixie compared to some yankee bunch of nobodies

Hehe.

And now for a transition to a topic with a little less levity...

Ray Chapman was struck in the temple by a spitball (it's believed he never saw the pitch, as he never reacted to it; this led to a rule banning the pitch) thrown by Carl Mays. He collapsed on the field, and died in the hospital 36 hours later.

Somebody else make a question. I'm too pissed nobody got that one.

Allright, since 1990 only 1 NFL team out of 37 has started 7-1 or 8-0 and not made the play-offs, Name the team and the year (for bonus points, name their record at the end of the year)

I seem to recall the '96 or '97 Redskins doing something like that... if it wasn't 7-1, it was 6-2, and they finished up 8-8.

Correct, 1996 the Redskins started out 7-1 and lost 7 of their last 8 games, you're up Incandenza

Yeah, I lived in DC for much of the late nineties, and those were some dark fucking years for the Redskins, I tell you what. Gus Frerotte should be stabbed. :D

New question:
Who holds the NFL record for rushing yards gained in their rookie season? (and no, it's not Purple Jesus.... yet)

At the rate Randy Moss is going, it looks like he could break the record for most receiving yards in a season and most TD catches in a season.

Approximately (+/- 50) what is the record for most receiving yards in a season, who set it and in what year?

The second part of the question: What is the record for most TD receptions in a season, who set it, and in what year?

Jerry Rice, 1994... i dunno, 1950 yards? That is a complete guess, I can't even remember what a typical season for a WR is.
