I'd be willing to pay anyone to hack into the site and do something to royally screw Twill. Unfortunately I don't have enough technological savvy to do it myself.

After all, we were redesigning it for you all so you all should be involved in the process. So I made a thread, organized it, stickied it, and compiled the info as it came in. Lack thanked me for starting the thread, but Twill threw a hissy fit being the control freak that he is because it didn't go "through him". Twill's idea was to come up with a new system first, w/o any input from you guys, and only then throw it out for comments (I found this out after I made the thread). While that may have worked, I find it's more efficient for some things to get input at the beginning of the planning stages, rather than at the end.
I have, in the past, attempted to create ideas and suggestions for ways to improve the site. I was attempting to get the community that has played over 2,000,000 games to tell the "programmer" what it is we as a community wanted.

I found this to be a waste of time though, as that isn't the way things work here. Here, they like to program and design in secret, and then drop it on the community and watch everybody react. I prefer the process that is followed in the Map Foundry. I believe the suggestions/bug reports forum should be run like that, with any and all good ideas that obtain community approval to be implemented by the programmer. I believe it is we who should tell the programmer what to program. I also believe it is us as the community that should elect and demote the mods. Lets get rid of the tyranny and implement democracy.

I have a related post in Flame Wars about it....please take the flames there.

And I think bedub makes a good point as far as the lack of transparency when it comes to the site as a whole... tho using the foundry as an example may be a bit of a stretch.

I have to say i 'largely' agree.
Having made a good number of suggestions (ok they could all be awful) and witnessed many excellent ones from others, implementation of community suggestions does seem to be at best painfully slow in instigation. (at worst an utter waste of time.)
having now spent a little time in the Map foundry, I find that it is a great blueprint to follow for general, everyday work-in progress!

I imagine why this would not work is that map coding is already blueprinted and can be translated in essence to create new maps. (all the bespoke map creation is done for free by the cartographers.)
Whereas all new structural changes to the site, requested in Suggestions, require bespoke attention. (work done and paid for by the site)

(i have no real idea what i am talking about .. but it never held me back before.. so what the hell!)

well, to be fair, we have heard wicked's side of the story, now Twill, do you care to respond and share your viewpoint?

I still am not sure what happened, were you high on narcotics wicked and then being abusive to players? or was this another perception? again, i have no idea, trying to read thru all this.

All I know is this: when I have talked with lackattack, and I have on many accounts over the years, mostly in private, he has always listened and responded back to me in a timely manner. It is unlike him to judge anyone unfairly without solid information.

As far as Twill, well he is related to zAwbanjito who I respect a lot. Twill and I have talked on a few different occasions and in my opinion, he has been fair to me at least, and has listened to my ideas and conflicts on things. He even offered his MSN IM and wanted to discuss some changes on the site about CC rules and ideas on some things. He took the time to hear my side on things and other players views on things and he didn't need to, so i respect him for hearing me out and giving me a chance to discuss concerns, etc.

Wicked as we all know, can be controversial at times, however, if you get an opportunity to chat with her, she is open to reason. I had one major issue with her (wicked) in the past and we talked several times about it, pretty heated on my end too, and she heard me out, we came to a negotiation and compromised and I thank you for that Wicked. I am still in the dark about any mistreatment she may have caused with some cc players, I guess I didn't realize she has except maybe with the owen thing which I was lost on as well.

With all that said, I respect all the cc workers and contributors, I am sure it is not an easy task to always do, and they do put up with a lot. Until I have more information, all I will say is that I trust the integrity of CC and the decisions put forth until I hear differently. What is important here is wicked's health and that she is on the road to recovery, glad you are ok wicked and keep up the workouts. Send suggs, jiminski and I some pic's, thx 8-) + post em' in the hot + sexy :D cheers

when did wicked give her side of the story, all i read was a bunch of polarizing garbage about what she thought was the reason behind things, but never really read anything about what they had told her was the reason for things.

Man that was a lot of bitching and complaining to wade through. It seems that a lot of people here are quick to shout there opinions about how this site sucks and is going to crap but I don’t hear anyone offering to step up and take the responsibility. Everyone is quick to complain about what needs to be done but there is a lot of looking to the sky and whistling hoping that the finger is going to pass you by when the work actually needs to be done. No one has stepped up and said that they would be willing to do Twill or Lacks job and I would be very skeptical of anyone who did.

I'm not sure why people think that this site should be a democracy. This site is already the epitome of democracy. The governing body does what they feel is in the best interest of the people and the people shit all over it and complain about everything. And unfortunately the people who are satisfied with the site are the ones that say nothing so only the idiots and jerkoffs are the ones that are heard. Take a look at how your democratic countries are run. I don’t ever remember being asked to vote on gay marriage or the war in Iraq. The only thing I voted for was Liberals or Conservatives. When the governing party decides to sack one of its members I am never asked for my opiion on the issue. When you signed up for this site you were voting for the governing body and that is what you get. If you have a problem with what they are doing then leave and find a site that you agree with. Try Landgrab, I hear they really cater to the playing community

And what makes you think that because you pay for the service you own the site. Just because you by a bag of Doritos does not mean you own the company. This is not a publicly traded site that you can find on the Toronto Stock Exchange. If you’re not happy with what you are paying for then go back to your free 4 games at a time and Shut the Hell up. Lack is providing us with a great place to play a game that we love to play. You ungrateful bastards need to realize that you owe him not the other way around. Maybe you who are so quick to complain should start your own site and run it the way you like. In the mean time be happy with what you've got.

I for one say that I could do a better job as a community manager, and in fact the current community manager's career here has been a complete trainwreck and he ought to step down. I couldn't do the programming stuff because that's not my area of expertise, but as someone who has had fair experience in the past in PR etc. I certainly could do a better job in community maangement. :P.

... I have to disagree. It's fun and games for us but it's a business for some, and our votes do not, and should not matter one wit in the end.

... I'm not saying a business need not pay attention to its customers, and if it fails in this regard it will suffer the consequences, but democracy? No.

... I love wicked (metaphorically speaking - never met her). My opinion isn't about her, rather, it just a response to what I think is a bad idea.

... Cheers.

Damn... one day I come on and find myself shocked to learn what it's been like for wicked, and suddenly today I find all this...insanity...

Back in the spamalot days we (those of us in spamalot) all resented wicked and AK (this was while Twill was on his "extended leave") but it was more just against the mods in general. While both wicked and AK gave us trouble, I remember liking wick more, maybe because she would give better reasons for her actions... that and AK was more of a general asshole. Anyway as those days came to a close I felt wicked usually had good reason (though sometimes harsh) for her decisions. To learn what conditions she was under during all of that, well yes on one hand maybe she should have taken a break until she was better but on the other hand she arguably did a better job than other mods who weren't sick and drugged.

What I'm saying is, in my perspective, wicked has worked the hardest and most reasonably out of all the mods on the frontlines (I can't speak for other fronts such as coding and multibusting... as I haven't paid attention to those...) and deserves anything but this. This is Lack's site (however much he neglects it/leaves it in the power of others) and if he wants to fire someone there's probably nothing anyone can do about it. It may be a mistake, it may even affect the business negatively but that's his problem now. But I'm glad you're enjoying some freedom wicked, wish you well. :)

The fact that you are still here makes your statement look pretty ridiculous. If you truly were so unhappy with the site you would have left long ago. In fact the only thing your post says is that you enjoy the site enough to stay but you are to cheap to pay for the service you enjoy. You have no right to bitch about anything your getting for free. You of all people should be happy with what Lack is giving you, and you of all people owe him for providing you with a place to play a game you like for free. So quit your crying and complaining and just enjoy the game, or head on over to some other site and see how well they treat you there.
