Hmmm... I can see your point. I think my real problem is one of motivation... I think I've just got enough in me to see this through to completion, but I don't know how bothered I can be with continual to-ing and fro-ing. I'll have another look at changing DF to a +1, but if it causes me too much aggravation, I'll leave it out and either let this drop by the wayside or continue as it is.

My bonus calculator says...

Noroeste 4,0
Norte 5,3
Occidente 4,0
Valle de 5,6
Sur 3,4
Golfo 4,0

And if you consider the Pacific ports and the Atlantic ports to be bonus zones (continents) as well, how do the numbers come out?

"Continent neighbours" is the weakest modifier... increasing the "continent neighbours" field by 1 increases the bonus by about 0,08.

imo this map really could use a tiny bonus.

If this is really a point worth driving (and I DO NOT believe that it is) the obvious solution is bringing back the baja bonus.

BUT LIKE I SAID,

"IMO", I think this is fine, and should move to graphics, "ASAP".

i like the mountains - they fit nicely

witout reading the backlog posts, I think the map is looking good.

I'm not satisfied with the upper/lower pattern border. I think it's the green/white/red gradient behind it. May look better solid or something.

ALso - that territory font is not the best. It works and is easy to read, but sort of roman looking.

(all graphic feedback of course)

we already have a 3-region bonus zone, sur, that is smaller than the smallest in classic. i'm not sure why, natty, but the bonus calculator figures feel intuitively wrong for gameplay when compared with the existing ones on the map.

other than that, the map will probably have to be expanded vertically to allow us to add in a key for the state abbreviations.

I'll bet you can fit the abbreviations right beneath the inset map. There are only four, correct? GTO, QRO, EDO. MEX, and DF?

EDIT: I just noticed. Veracruz is both a port and a state. This will tend to confuse players. Can you pick another port, or give it a more distinctive designation (Porto? Puerto? de Veracruz? Forgive me, I last studied Spanish over 30 years ago.)

I almost said add some grunge... but don't. I think the limited texture looks quite good.

The biggest problem that I see are names overlapping borders. I'd recommend cutting the borders so the names are more clear.

I'd also like to see the ocean names in Spanish rather than English.

And obviously, the legend needs to correlate with the map.

Thanks RJ; I always respect your opinion ;-)

I'll look into the territory label font... I'm using Lithos at the moment, which is perhaps slightly more Greek than anything... I'm open to alternative suggestions, but they need to be legible at a small size.

I do have to say that I quite like the Mexican flag colours in the border, but I'll look at tidying the exposed edge a little - that might help it settle a bit more.

I'll make it clear in the XML - that should be sufficient?

Obviously I need to shuffle some of the names around a bit, but is there anything else people think needs doing?

Thank you for your kind words ;-)

I've just been browsing through alternative typefaces. I really like Zócalo, but don't really want to pay for it, especially as I can;t really tell what it would look like without trying it :-/

1. I'd like to see how red army numbers look on those 3 red bonus areas.

The numbers have black outlines so I don't see how it matters...

Like the flag look of the map itself and wouldn't mind see the Golden Eagle coat of arms make its way onto the map in some capacity.

That would be kind of neat, but it might just make things harder to read or look too busy. Plus he'd have to rearrange the bonus areas, right? I just think it would make things more difficult. I like it the way it is. But if you feel like throwing in the eagle, MrBenn, knock yourself out. It could be cool.
