But again, not possible with the current xml.

That's similar to what hatterson recommended (I talked to him on IRC before I made the map to see if the idea was okay).

If the XML is going to update before this is in Final Forge, I could make it so each continent gives +1 for if their solution is correct. This could be what's unique about the map instead of just the same old game looking different.

It depends on the feel you want for the map. Higher bonuses lead to a quicker game if someone gets ahold of a couple places. Lots of smaller bonuses leads to a more drawn out game. At least that's what I've seen in my experience.

I'd go with the one below what the calculator says for each bonus.

I agree. I'll adjust the bonuses in the next map update.

Don't save a map like that as a .jpg - it blurs the quality.

Perhaps have several hall territories so that not everything is a special territory that you have to gamble on if you're going to go with the special XML idea.

Well, I was thinking of putting in the hallways, maybe I'll add in individual "special" territories, but they're colored because of continents. If I do that, then I know that the featured table will be one, maybe one of the roulette ones... And I'll try to get a less blurry version of it :)

WAAAY too grid-like. I like the layout though. Play around with the territory divisions; maybe draw in where the tables and stuff would go and work around them?

I'm fairly certain that the Maya were from South America, more exactly the Amazonic rainforest, and that they were extinguished long before the European made it to the Americas. (Or am I confusing them with the Incas?)

You're confusing them. Both the Aztecs and Maya were previlent durring Spain's initial expansion into the new world. The maya were the first to go and the Aztecs quickly followed. Maya is about where he showed however. Spain origionally landed in Cuba and then expanded West into Maya territory.

What the hell did you guys learn in school?

Columbus landed on one of the Bahamas islands and named it San Salvador. The first colonial outpost was on Hispaniola (which also became the first Spanish colony) though (built by lumber from one of his wrecked ships). Although the first expedition did indeed stumble upon Cuba as well, it wasn't the "original landing" in any way.

The Mayans then - or at least the Mayan empire - collapsed before Columbus discovered the New World. The collapse had nothing to do with Europeans. Likely explanations for the demise are climate changes, agricultural problems, and internal structural problems (civil war, anarchy etc.).

Really. You should learn these things in school. Or from the Discovery chanel. :D

You should give florida a bonus because of Juan Ponce Da Leon and The Fountain of Youth.

Ok, I have an idea that sounds totally nerdy but makes for a pretty awesome map. World of Warcraft. Ok, so here's a link to the actual map.

http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/flashmap/

Just for clarity's sake right now, I made no attempt to compose my map of the same exact territories, as that would defy the copyright and make for a pretty bad RISK map. And while I'm on the subject of copyright, the forum rules says all artwork must be original if you don't have permission from the copyright holders. Does that mean that I have to draw the whole thing, or can I sorta outline it and then fill in the countries with my own art? I'm curious, mainly because I chose the second route. Anyway, here is my map (as of the current stage of development)

Any comments?

Obviously, the triangles are mountains, the blue lines are rivers, the blue circles are lakes, and the lines are water passages. Any passage with an arrow obviously means that you can only use the passage that direction.

Yeah, that's what I'm doing on my hand drawn copy... I agree that it is too grid like but I'm trying to come up with a better arrangements.

How about a stage or theatre area? Maybe have a Rat Pack room or a Seigfried & Roy, Wayne Newton, Celine Dion, stars associated with Vegas/gambling...maybe even...Pete Rose!

A bonus of one army for four territories is too low I think, even though the red continent has only one border. And 2 for 5 and two borders is also on the lower side. My suggestion would be something like:

Code: Select all

  Color | Bonus
-----------------
Red     |    2
Green   |    4
Blue    |    3
Brown   |    5
Orange  |    6
Pink    |    3
Yellow  |    3
Cyan    |    4
Purple  |    3

Mostly identical with your initial suggestion, the small and big continents needed to be strengthened a little, though, especially brown: 7 territories, 4 borders, it definitely needs a bonus of 5

Well yes, but I wouldn't want to play that map without the risk 2210 rules. Also I know we don't have copyrights with Wizards of the Coast or Avalon Hill.

Good joke if that was your intent.

But you can take all territories from one spot for the red continent and then fortify to the border and you have a free +2.
