i don't think hand drawing gives you the darker areas.

PS: quench it. (i think this is the first post where i said a map needs to be quenched). this was a true inspiration for my 2 maps (especially the Age of Merchants one) i really like the way it looks and feels. it's like i almost want to touch it.
The map isnt finished. So what's the point of quenching it?
Its not even at final forge stage.

yeah that would look perfect for this map. Just don't go too thick and it will look great.

yeah, and whats the point of saying quench it? You can express appreciation in other ways. You know... "wow thats great, well done"
I think people that say "final forge" and "quench it" prematurely arent helping anything.

i said this is the first time i've wanted a map quenched. so i'm not one of those guys that says quench it just because they have nothing else to say. but i'm so inlove with this map i want to play it now.

you can play it now.... It just looks crappy.
Id also love to play it, but I know I cant cause people are still having issues telling what territories belong to which continent. But I dont like the coloured outline that keyogi gave us a sample of. Yes it will help the confusion but I think it will make the map look worse.

I disagree, I think if you can't tell the difference by now, you shouldn't last long in an actual game. I could use the points!

Im not sure what you mean, but I have no problems telling what territory goes in what continent in keyogi's version.
I like it the way it is, without the coloured borders.

teya wouldn't it make it impossible for color blind people play that map without colored borders?

Update - March 12
Firstly, I used country flags to get colours for the continents, that's why some are the same. I don't think it really matters though, I'm not a fan of this approach and would prefer to take a different direction. I understand that something needs to be done for those who struggle to distinguish between continents, I just really don't think the highlights around the borders are the way to go.
Perhaps it's just best to go the traditional route and have distinctively different colours for each continent? It's a shame, because I really think it will take away a lot of what I was trying to achieve, but I understand that it's not practical. I knew this when I first did it. My whole intention was to provide something different.

Why did you aim that at me molacole?? Just because I said the coloured borders make the map look worse?
I never said anything about territories HAVING to be the same colour. Your comment is pointless.

the font is better
Still dont feel the coloured borders work

simmer down people. if the territories have the name across them, you don't need any colours, just strong borders so that people can see where they end.
and keyogi i think the font looks good, more of a "ye olde map" feel to it.

Looking at update 10, is it possible to just change the colours around? The way I see it, the biggest problem colours would be Iran & bactria. What if you swapped the colour of 1 of them with Arabia?

What about making the boarders different colors but blur them in to keep them different but not to "in your face"! You could then keep everything the same color but still be able to tell what goes with what.

no way. if you put colours into the continents then the whole map feeling is gone. i won't love you anymore. the coloured borders are a compromise to playability but that should be the only compromise
don't put colours to continents

the font is
beautiful. perfect. superb. i like it

.
i also like the coloured outline, but if you hate it dont keep it.
maybe you could add a bit more yellow to the outlines to make them older looking.
the font combined with the mountains have really worked wonders on this map
