Here's my point. Why can't the Christians, Jews, Muslims just let people live their lives? We've got a guy here on CC who can't buy beer on Sunday and now we've got people who can't walk down certain streets because if they don't think Mohammed is all that and a bag of chips. It all sucks and I'm sick of it.

During my lunch break all the Christians here try and convert me. The one Muslim guy we've got over in admin gets extra break time to pray. Why should he get any preferential treatment?

look at it this way...what makes 5 minutes of your day so important as far as work goes that you can offer up thanks or prayers to the entity that you believe has a hand in your eternal salvation? Youve got the premise right, just the answer wrong.

what value does life or even to be more vulgar time have if you spend all of it in the rather mundane thing that is often work? far few of us do what it is we really want to do, and if you are such a person then i congradulate you. But assuming your job isnt everything you ever wanted to be, why begrudge someone for those 5 minutes? you arent likely to be fired for it, especially given that the time has been set aside if you filled some type of grievance.

Muslims just exchange this time to make Salaat. I am not offended by it...you are just bashing Muslims right now. Muslims do not get any more time than anyone else. The time is fairly exchanged, and if you want to be a Muslim, it would be fairly exchanged for you as well. I don't see what your beef is on this matter.

And Muslims are asked to find a private place to pray, so as they do not offend others. The normal Salaat only takes about 5 minutes to complete.

eh i can understand being pissed about it in an everday work setting when someone is getting something preferential that ulitmatly slows you down or adds to the work they you already have to do. And if your not part of that particular group of people i could see it being harrasing after a while being a member of an outgroup.

I can see the point also if this is such the case, but I do not believe it is. Salaat during your normal working hours would only be 5 or 10 depending on your work schedule. And if you are late making Salaat or are unable for some reason, Allah is All Merciful and Most Understanding and whatever other 101 names you can think of. Islam permits making up your Salaat, but it is preferred that you try to make them at the appointed times.

If I was a Muslim I would make my five minute Salaat and take that time out of one of my breaks. If it was ten minutes I would take it out of my breaks as well. But there would be no way that my Salaat would be lasting over an hour! That is absurd, and it doesn't happen.

If it bothers you so much, just tell your boss you want the same amount of time the Muslim guy gets to pray to whatever diety you favor. Unless your boss is a double-standarding PC idiot, you should have no problem getting it.

I just read your profile so I can now see why you think it's that simple. You're only in high school so what do you know about being responsible for deadlines? If you don't turn in your homework on time you'll only suffer a bad grade, if you don't make it in the real world you get fired.

The message is wishfull I agree but how on earth can you disagree with the principle of a fairer world with no conflict.
