Don't quote me on this but I believe that if you high stick someone and theres blood it's an automatic 2500 dollar fine. Don't know where I read that. I didn't even look it up I just think that's how it is. I'll look it up.........nope. I looked up the NHL rule book and they don't get a 2500 dollar fine for drawing blood. It does say though that the commissioner can dish out a fine for a high stick at his own discretion.

Wings are rolling again. Jimmy Howard is on a hot streak (he's been insane in the last 6 minutes of their game Wednesday vs. Tampa), Datsyuk is being his usual amazing self, and some how this team is performing better defensively this year than they did last year, despite Rafalski retiring. GO WINGS!

Bad loss last night to the Rangers. Got up 1-0 and then the Rangers scored 4 straight...we looked lazy on defense.

There is an incredible lack of discussion about the Rangers right now. Considering how few games they've played, they are really the team with the most points in the league.

Gotta wonder if the Ducks would have made a move had Boudreau not been available.

Odd though... they fire their coach after beating montreal... Not that it is a feat, but normally you fired people when you lose a game...

WOW!! I am pumped!!
A sales rep for a company I buy a lot of product from comped me two Jets tickets. Sweet seats at that!!
Remember that 13000 season tickets were sold in a 15000+ facility in 17 min, so with only 2000 tickets available per game, there are severely hard to acquire.
True, they are only playing Minnesota, and not any of the more prestigious teams but WOOOT!!!!

The new format is going to make rivalries a lot stronger. The Canes and Islanders are pretty shit, so for the next few years we'll be seeing the Rangers/Caps/Flyers a lot in the first rounds of the playoffs.
One thing that does suck, though, is if let's say two teams from one conference lead the entire league in points and are clearly the best two teams. They'll be meeting eachother in the second round of the playoffs other than the Stanley Cup semi-finals.

and again, another useless move by Gary Bettman, then the habs will play 32 useless game against the western conference, 14 games was too many but with bettman you always get more stupidity every day. He's probably gonna stick with owning the Pheonix Coyotes for a couple more years ... a saga to continue.
p.s. = he's probably gonna bring 2 more teams over the next 5-10 years to make a 32 teams nhl ( wich will be great )
p.s.2 = ah yeah we are stuck with florida and tampa bay, nice one bettman, the best conference is ''D'' conference ( closest teams in all nhl )

Yeah, I thought that was odd. Especially since the entirety of Conference D is directly between Florida and the rest of the teams in C.

It's bloody ridiculous. Not to mention that two conferences only have 7 teams while the other two have 8. The teams chosen for the conferences make little sense, and seriously, when will someone fucking shoot Bettman!?!?! He's killing my favourite sport! I'd do it if I wasn't a bloody criminologist! *storms off to fetch her stick and hit things*

Think ahead. Think PHX moving to Quebec City next year or the year after. Then it will all make sense.

As a Wings fan, I say all your whining about the new format is comical. Especially any complaints about eastern teams having to travel west. And while fans in Detroit, Montreal, Toronto, Boston may not care about seeing Anaheim or Columbus come to town, you can bet that those cities will get a bump in attendance when the Wings, Habs, Leafs and Bruins come visit, which will now happen annually. Hell, the attendance bump already happens.
I do appreciate AoG's comments about the possibility of the top two teams meeting in the early rounds, though I don't necessarily think of this as a horrible thing either. Over all, I think this is a good alignment, and can't wait to see how it plays out. I'm also with keiths - PHX is going to Quebec, and I think they'll add 2 more teams within the next 5-10 years, possibly Hamilton and Seattle.

the new conferencs only benefits 2 teams = detroit and columbus, should have moved detroit to east, i understand the '' attendance thing '' but really 32 games vs the west and we don't meet west until the final ??? not that good, ok here's a long shot for the future with bettman = the nhl will move to europe to form a esatern conference made of european teams maybe 20 teams and 20 teams in north america, the final between the 2 conferences, but not playing against each other in the regular season, here you go bettman fans

Winnipeg, Dallas, and Minnesota also directly benefit from the new Conferences. And honestly, I can not for the life of me understand your gripe about having to play the western teams 32 times. How can you NOT see that as being a good thing for the entire league? There are 30 teams in this league, and I think it's great that every one of them will visit Detroit, and the Wings will visit every other city in the league as well. You're a Habs fan. Do you only care about them when they're playing someone you find interesting? Do Montreal - Tampa games bore you? When the Kings come to town, do you find something else to do instead of watching the hockey game? I'll admit, back when Detroit had to play Nashville 8 times a year, I got fed up seeing the Predators over and over... but we're talking 2 games a year against these teams! I fail to see the problem this causes you.

That is extremely short sighted. As Serbia mentioned, the new alignment benefits Dallas, Minnesota and Winnipeg. My team (Senators) are in the same new conference as the Habs, and I find the new system to be an improvement. So they have to travel to Florida a few more times a year. There are worse things that could happen during the season.
Your European comments are silly. That will never happen. I am anything but a Bettman fan, but have to give credit when it is due. I'm looking forward to increased intra-conference rivalries during the playoffs. Back to the old Adams/Patrick/Smythe/Norris type of battles.

i only watch montreal hockey games and if montreal gets eliminated or does not make the playoff i turn my tv off till next october, who gives a %$?? about watching nashville vs detroit or vancouver vs boston, and for teams like colombus, pheonix, nashville, dallas, florida, tampa bay of course it's better for them cause they are a no-hockey market ( unless i'm wrong aboput that ) bettman shot his own foot when he allowed nhl to be located in no-snow towns ( no snow makes it hard for children to relate to hockey ) a part from florida and tampa bay ( wich is crowded with people from Québec province who go in vacations for 6 month in florida aka snowbirds as they're called ) so bettman is trying to make it up for his own errors instead of admiting hockey is a winter sport ( apart from the california state wich i have no clue why hockey is selling there ) we went to play anaheim last weekend and there was more habs jersey in the crowd then ducks .....
atlanta out ------- pheonix out ---------- nashville out ----------- and maybe another one and then go where hockey got a fanbase, and yes it's as easy as saying it for these millionaires owners, think about it
p.s. = i stand on my point that playing 32 games vs the west is bs ( or useless you guys chose the word you like better ) for teams like toronto, montreal, boston, new york rangers, philadelphia, pittsburgh, ottawa, buffalo. Watch out for those 3 games in 4 nights when playing one in vancouver then the next day in florida, then los angeles , etc .....

the conference will maybe like you said get hockey players names instead of governors like in the 80's
i like that lemieux for ''D'' gretzky for west ---- gordie howe for detroit conference ---- and bobby orr for boston conference
