How about a connect 4 Map?

self explanatory: you have to get 4 territories in a line to gain a bonus... the rest of the game proceeds as normal. But to avoid silly bonus's the majority of the starting territories would be Neutral (a little like Feudal wars in essence)

hmm...i dunno it could work...
maybe if you hold 4in a row for one turn - you win!
but it would have to be a specific 4 though

yes maybe... you could do it that way

I was just considering more loosely based on the game; you could go for a 4 anywhere (not just one, multiple and anywhere on the board.)
Say you start with 1 or 2 territories (like in Feudal but perhaps random) and you have to gain as many 4's in a row as possible, whilst trying to stop 4's for your opponent.

thinking about it perhaps the starting positions would have to be fixed or it could be just an assassin game in 2 player if you started next to your opponent... hmm that needs some thought.

Perhaps being truer to the game is better as you suggest!

Has anyone ever attempted a map in which the entire bonus system rested entirely on conquering more territories? No autodeploys, territories, resources, castles, etc. You get an extra army for each conquered territory. Specific starting locations and everything else neutral. Like Feudal War but different. Perhaps set in the ancient world or during the barbarian invasions of Europe, to give it broader appeal and make it easier to come up with a map? After all, historically there have been empires covering vastly different territories, which have not been held to specific "continents" a la risk. To take the barbarian invasions of Europe as an example, consider the Romans, Celts, Greeks, Goths, Moors, Mongols, Huns, Turks, Slavs, Bulgars and Magyars. They were all major powers in Europe at one point or another in history, but their borders were completely different. And differ again from modern borders.

Since I've gotten going on this particular era tangent, we'd be dealing with something like this map:

http://homepages.udayton.edu/~schuerwc/ ... ngdons.jpg

Except on the order of World 2.0 in terms of territory number. There's some Middle Ages info and a whole slew of worthwhile maps at this page as well:

http://homepages.udayton.edu/~schuerwc/ ... ne%203.htm

Is there support for this idea? Should I pursue it? And, if there's support for the premise of a continent-less map but not in this era/location, what should I do with this?

Moonbase. (or perhaps Mars) - could be one up DiM's alley! Age of Space ;)

[bigimg]http://astrobiology.ciw.edu/uploaded/images/1270773.jpg[/bigimg]

you have to gain areas with vital information, raw materials and skill-sets to set up base and then terraform. (Terraform) the face of the Moon or :Mars

Perhaps it could be the US v China (Russia .. Japan... Germany etc) and you have to race to claim the vital components and eventually gain complete control to win and begin the transformation of the surface.

Maybe when the player is victorious and on capture of all necessary you could actually animate the transformation.. hehe easy!

I truly hope that this is not seen as spam but i have quickly and very roughly mocked up a little picture 'Terraform landscape', With Ice deposits to aid the process and biospheres, and terraforming factories. to try to capture an artist/cartographers imagination.

London Boroughs

Who would be up for making a map based on the 36 Boroughs of London? The lack of river crossings to the East could make crossing the Thames difficult. Boroughs could be separated into areas based on postcodes, ie N, NW, E, SW, SE etc

What do people think?

A London map is already in development. Also, ideas without developed drafts should be posted in the Map Ideas thread.

We did have one of these in the works - it was called "Conquer 4"... sadly the artist has left...

And the XML (which was written) needs rewriting...

Japan (Sengoku Period)

I think it would be great to make a map of Feudal Japan (Sengoku period). This was the time period when the emperor basically became a figurehead and the Samurai heads (called Daimyo) of Japan's major clans fought to see who should be named Shogun. There was something like 6-8 major clans. Just a thought.

There is a map of Ancient Japan far along in Foundry right now. It's a geographic map for the most part, with a Scotland city-esque Temple bonus. If you were wanting to start another Japan map, I would pick a province of the continent, play up the samurai fighting over the shogunate angle, and be very open to criticism. If you could drop a draft on us of something like that, I at least will be happy to comment.

Ooops. Didn't realize there was one being made. I must've missed it here on the forum. I did actually look before posting :) . Apparently not hard enough.

I've taken a look at what's been done already and yes, that's what I was thinking. I think the temple bonus thing is a good idea as well.

Sorry guys!
