I've worked out a points system to show which players are doing the best in the tournament. The system is quite complicated so I won't post it here, but if you want to know how many points your next game will be worth just ask.

At the moment, the points system won't officially mean anything as it's working on a trial basis for now, but if it proves to be accurate throughout the tournament then it may provide a second winner, in addition to the player with the most gold medals.

I'll only post the top 10 players - if you'd like to know your position, as always just send me a PM :)

Those wins mean that Thailand has become the first country to reach the Semi Finals in 2 events, and overtakes Lithuania at the top of the leaderboard!

Lithuania also wins a Round 1 game in the Men's Luge, closing the gap between 1st and 2nd place to just 14 points! A Round 2 win in that event is worth an extra 32 points.

To round up the day's events:

  • Lithuania closes the gap between the Top 2 to just 14 points
  • Bulgaria jumps up to 3rd place, only 24 points behind 2nd place, knocking Switzerland down to 4th
  • Turkey is one of the first 2 countries to reach the Semi Final in Event 2, earning an extra 32 points and jumping up to 5th place
  • Virgin Islands and Brazil both enter the Top 16 in equal 12th place

Here's the round up for 2nd August:

  • Russia regains 5th place over Turkey which was lost yesterday
  • Sweden overtakes Azerbaijan to take a strong 7th place
  • Bosnia enters the Top 16 in joint 11th place
  • There are now two clear groups at the top - the Top 4 followed by a group of 3 who are gradually pulling away from the rest of the field

In my Excel file I've got all the pairings ready (chosen by random.org) so each space would have something like "Winner of Match 67", so if it happens that both countries in a match are ready before the previous round has finished, then I'll send out their game straightaway.

Here's what's happened in Event 4 in more detail:

Switzerland played Lithuania in the Semi Final, and Lithuania won so they're through to the Final.

We're currently waiting for a Round 3 game to finish - the winner of that game will play New Zealand in Round 4, that winner will play Mongolia in the Quarter Final, and that winner will play you (Thailand) in the Semi Final.

Switzerland isn't down as having lost the Semi Final as they will be playing in the Bronze Medal Play-off - if they win they will have a "B" on the scoreboard, if they lose they will then have "SF" without an asterisk.

I think that answers your question :? (I just woke up), if it doesn't then pour some water over my head or something and ask me again!

Here's the update for 4th August:

Not so much going on this time, just a couple of big climbers!
  • United States jumps up from 15th to equal 10th
  • Virgin Islands re-enters the Top 16 in equal 6th!

A pretty quiet day in the tournament for most - only 4 games finished today:

  • Czech Republic enters the Top 16 in 13th place
  • Sweden becomes the 5th country to reach the 300-point mark and jumps up three positions
  • Bosnia drops out of the Winter Olympics due to insufficient funds

heatz wrote:Tupence how come your team mongolia isn't in the list of teams in the competition?

Mongolia was originally a player who has dropped out for some reason, either premium running out or deadbeating. What I've done is taken over the players who have done this in the events that they already started, so that the numbers work out and no-one gets a "free pass" to the next round. This is why you'll see Mongolia in Event 4, but not in later events like 7 or 8.

Obviously these countries won't get any points or medals, they just serve their purpose as opponents. Hope that answers your question :)

Haha it was quite a shame actually; because of the amount of people dropping out I ended up against myself in two rounds for Event 4 - that's the only way I managed to end up against you in the Semi Finals! Never would've got there otherwise...
