I don't know if it has been mentioned in this thread or not, but the residents of Rio de Janero are not happy about having to host it.

I can't believe how easy the Argentina group is!

Try to decide which bets to go for on the World Cup. Will take a look on Paddy Power tonight. :D

Also, the Independent is always shit.
Colombia? They may but it's far from given, none of those teams may very well make it past the group stage though. I'd say 50-50 that one of them makes it through vs none of them do.

are we going to see that shit all the world cup?

I'm starting to believe FIFA can decide who wins the WC, as Pirlo said.

There was certainly no way Brazil were going to be allowed to lose that match given all the crap that has surrounded the Cup. Hopefully that will be the last of it and Croatia will finish second in the group. I do fear for Spain, Holland or Chile in the last 16 though.

Btw how good was Oscar tonight? Best I've ever seen him play.

well, shit happens. It would never have happened the other way around, but on the other side, the FIFA chose a japanese ref in sao paolo.... where 350 000 japanese live and that is basically the number 1 japanese "colony". He was deeply biaised.

Anyway, it was still an entertaining match; i think taco can be happy because had croatia made a draw vs brazil mexico would already be in danger. Croatia has a great team, too bad for them they got such a disgusting draw, even if they make it through the group stages they will face spain (if logical results happen).

I would like brazil to win the WC if france doesn't, because they are great people and because of the actual social situation. but not like this FIFA please!

croatia scored after 10-15 minutes through an own goal by Marcelo (brazilian defense).
Neymar scores after 30 minutes; then on the second half Fred, a brazilian striker falls in the penalty area with no real reason and brazil gets a penalty that wasn't (neymar to score his second goal shooting the penalty).

Just after that, croatia scores the equalizer but the ref calls a foul on the brazilian keeper; but there was jack shit there. Croatia kept trying but it didn't work, and brazil scored a last goal on the last minute.
3-1 for brazil and it should've been 2-2.

Just a question: if Modric had turned to see Neymar, meassured him, then put the elbow right on his neck, would've the ref ejected Modric?

Crazy if this was how they won a bunch of cups between 1950s - 1970s. :-k

But what a boost for the rest of their journey. It looks like they are gonna end up being champions again!

haha, i love how FIFA gets referees from shitty countries (when it comes to football), all in the name of globalization, but the actual reason is that they can fix matches and then pretend the errors were because of the poor quality of referees not because of direct orders.

neymar should have been eliminated. clear as daylight.
the penalty? wow. one of the worst dives i've seen lately.

and there were many more other decisions that all went in favour of the brazilians. but these 2 effectively decided the outcome.

PS: i hope cameroon and mexico beat the crap out of brazil and eliminate them from the group stages. then the population becomes so upset it starts protests and strikes and the world cup is cancelled.

Not pleased with the japanese referees but the game was really exciting. Usually the opening game is a bit dull but this one was exciting from start to finish. Croatia played as I expected them to, tight defense and counter attacks, Brazil was not living up to their hype however, they won the game but much of that was thanks to the referee who blew penalty kick when there was none. They rely far too much on Neymar for their own good. After seeing this first game I don't think they have what it takes to go all the way, semifinals perhaps but not any further. Sloppy defense, with misstakes all over the pitch, the own goal being the most notable of them. If they had met a better team than Croatia this would've been a loss, but Croatia didn't capitalize on their opportunities enough, they were of course also unlucky with the refs inability to remain unaffected by the crowd. He would've never given Croatia a penalty kick if a Croatian had fallen like that. The crowd got to him and he blew his whistle prematurely.........

over reacting much? sorry but what does the brazilian team or brazilian people have to do with all this? the ref screwed up as it happens so often (and I got to say that there are way more screw ups in world cups than in european leagues or even the eurocup organised by the UEFA)

I wouldn't agree too much on what you say here. While dani alves did pretty bad on his side; there wasn't much marcelo could do about this goal, the croatian centered very well and marcelo already had the impulse and the ball was comming directly to him, it was much harder to put it outside rather than in (unlike most own goals). You can't blame marcelo that much on this. Brazil didn't have much midfield, very difficult to move the ball from the defense to the attackers; by the time it reach the attackers all the croatian defensive system was in place and the brazilians were pretty static. let's wait and see.
