A quick non-update update

Don't expect new games before the weekend, as I'm completely swamped at work (you might ask, of course, why I'm taking time then to update this thread--it's 'cause I care about you folks so much :D). Unfortunately, the tourney schedule is going to be subject to the whims of my job at various times through May.

Detroit @ Kansas City

The Royals complete the sweep. Excellent series, somehow the Royals pitched out of tough jams. The Tiger's offense (dice) deserted them twice when the game could have been put out of reach. Aggressive baserunning (forts) played a key role toward the end of game.

Saberhagen (4-0) defeats Rogers
Greinke (3-1) defeats Bonderman
Quisenberry (3-1) defeats Willis

I know this would be a lot of work, but as we get a little further in the season it would be cool to see a top ten for the best individual pitching records.

Just a thought.

That's absolutely something I have in mind, which is why the fourth post of the thread is reserved for pitcher records or anything else I feel like throwing in there. I don't think it will really be that hard to come up with that info, but I've been wrong before.

Thanks for the update on your games.

:-s

There's probably a way to extract stats like average territories lost per turn or something goofy like that from the game logs, but there is no way in the world I'm doing that right now! I don't even really have time to get new games out!

Ouch ... not cool, not cool at all ...

Anyway, I'm just bumping this to let you guys know that my busy week of work spilled over into my weekend. That's the reason you haven't seen new games yet. I should, however, be able to take some time on Monday and get those out to you. And if I'm really lucky, I'll figure out a way to get the up-to-date spreadsheet online.

The Rangers and the Browns have split their series in St. Louis.

The Rangers now own the season series with the Browns, having gone 5 of 7 against them this year.

"I'm not sure what it is about those Texas boys," says Browns manager jwithington, "but they sure have our number, even at home."

jwithington also noted that he was looking to the minors to find a new ace or two to add to his staff in the coming weeks.

Results:

Palmer (St. Louis) over Millwood Game 4472599
Padilla (Texas) def Stone Game 4472600
Myers (St. Louis) over Feldman Game 4472605
Harrison (Texas) def Shocker Game 4472607

Folks, we're now up to date on all completed games, and I've posted the new standings. You'll get new games (hopefully) later today, as my work schedule has now calmed down a tiny bit. In the meantime, a few notes on the league thus far:

  • Your current division leaders: Boston, Kansas City, LA Angels, NY Mets, Astros, and Brooklyn.
  • The one trend with all these teams so far is fantastic home records: the six of us have a combined 10 home losses. Clearly, we chose maps that other people really hate. ;)
  • Looking at the split records, a couple of other things stand out. freakns's Tampa Bay squad, who's just 1 game back in the AL East, is the only other team (along with Boston) to be undefeated at home.
  • On the flip side, props to HighlanderAttack and sargonflex, both of whom have only 1 away loss.
Look forward to those next couple of series soon ...

Funny, I find that list to be quite wonderful. ;) If it makes you feel any better, you'd have the wild card if the season ended today, but of course we have a looooooong way to go.

Right, 'cause everyone loves prison.

Still working on those games, folks--sorry about the delay. I had a 30-minute meeting turn into a 2-hour one this afternoon, which took away quite a bit of time and even caused me to miss a few turns in my games.

Rotation change

St. Louis "shocked" no one this week when they sent fifth starter Urban Shocker to the minors, replacing him with Mike Cuellar.

"Honestly, Urban was a gimmick--and we can't afford gimmicks at this point in the season," noted manager jwithington.

The line on the new pitcher:

#35 Mike Cuellar, Escalating, Unlimited, Foggy

Dude, Houston definitely took the map I would have chosen, and LA has one that I would have picked as well. I hope I get to play them both. :D

Now, Battle of Actium? That one is just wrong wrong wrong....

While I'm sad to see one of the best names in baseball history leaving the tourney, I've made the move, and Cuellar will take over after Shocker makes his fifth start.

I think the AL East is playing the NL East in interleague, so you'll miss both of those teams.

As for Actium, come on ... it's not THAT bad of a map. ;)

Results:

Browns (Shocker) defeats Contreras Game 4472104
Sox (Buerhle) over Sutcliffe Game 4472106

It's been on an unscheduled vacation--I've had two of the worst weeks of work I can remember, had my kids and wife sick, and been sick myself since the last batch of games. So most of my time has been spent catching up on work and trying to make all of my turns in the games I'm playing.

I'm very, very sorry about the delay--and about not letting you all know what was up. As soon as I can get those next games out (hopefully the next day or two), I will.
