That's the problem, money is made from maps. CC is hardly a charity.

Then post your source, obviously.

i agree...there is money made by selling premium membership...but the names of planets are not copyrighted if I'm not mistaken.

Maybe not, though. This is one of the most major difficulties involved with Star Wars maps. but, if there is a royalty-free image approved by Lucasfilm, I can use that without copyright issues as all artwork that is royalty-free falls away from copyright issues with the company. There is no copyright on a royalty-free image, but it's the name "Star Wars" that worries me.

Ah, well, I think I'll be forgetting the whole thing anyway. I'll keep thinking until something new comes to me!

i really hope this can continue, but if the name star wars is the major problem, just sacrifice it for the sake of the map. call it something that is as similar to it as possible. there are always sacrifices in the name of progress, so lets progress this map idea.

jeez you guys are pussies...Cc does not make of the maps,....It makes money by letting customer's paly as more games if they buy premium membership...

STAR WARS

FFS! I've had enough of moving and deleting posts and threads asking for a bloody Star Wars map.

There's even a Star Wars thread just a little bit down the page, but still somebody felt compelled to ask for it in a brand new thread anyway.

I'm fed up with it, so I'm turning this thread into the trash can for Star Wars suggestions. Any useless threads I find that are just asking for a Star Wars map will get merged into this thread.

Maybe if everyone can get together and share their ideas and way to get around the Copyright problem, we can get a Star Wars map on the site and then we wont have to deal with this endless and annoying situation.

If anybody wants to consider making a map look over the following threads first:

Also, copyright needs to be considered:

Every effort should be made to acquire express written consent for a map based on Copyrighted works. In the event that no response is given by the Copyright holders, the map can still be made, but must consist of completely original artwork.

So if permission is sought and there's no response, the map may go ahead as long as the map is made up of completely original artwork. That means no copy and pasting images of star wars characters, places, objects, etc.

If there is a response and it's a no, there is still hope. The map wont be able to be called Star Wars and any unique names should be avoided. Beyond that I think it should be ok.

Now please, stop creating useless threads asking for a Star Wars map!

It's all about lack of forum etiquette. People don't read before they post. It all around the foundry really. It just shows the maturity of people. /minirant

What about the empire strikes back?

Can we suggest that?

...or can there be a rule, saying we CAN suggest star wars, but as long as it's not one of the ones directed by George Lucas?

"The Reich thrusts deeply"
setting in arctic environment (no copyrights on that  ) named like Kolthe with a mechanised 6 legged walking brontosaurus type thingy and a underground base with above ground flying wings unlike the speeders(c).

Sure..that is possible.

Protection under Trademark or Unfair Competition Laws

The Copyright Office has no role in these matters.

brand names could also be patented

Trademarked "StarWars" is thus that classic straightlettered black text with white/silver lining logo. But NOT the words Star Wars as such .
Otherwise Ronald Reagan had to pay a hefty fee to Lucasarts when he talked about the concept of his Star Wars -missiles umbrella-.

Same with "Nike" which is a normal Greek word.. only if you use their specially designed letters it would mean infringement.

Maybe that 's a solution : Call the map "Ronny's Star Wars" and you are off the hook.
:P

Have the imperial troopers wear Soviet hammer and sickel, and the rebels wear the US star..and you are halfway there

Another brilliant idea:
Maybe you CAN use all of the original Star Wars pictures and names if you make the deal with Lucasarts that you will put advertisement/Website references on the map.
Like "please visit our sponsor http://www.lucasarts.com/merchandise " but very small down in the corner.

Try that.
:P

Gnome...please read the thread above from Keyogi if you haven't already.
There a copyright issues involved with this subject matter and if anyone wants to take them up then by all means do so, but i don't think andy or lackattack would be pleased to see a Star Wars map without proof that copyright has been approved from the original owner of the concept. :)

just make it all your own graphics, change some little things, names etc.
I'm sure you can make a nice starwars map that looks like it but is not realy stolen so no copyright issues...look at what I did with Midkemia...
