i dunno blitzy i'm drunk again and it looks pretty good...
i guess my point was this...
i havent been here for that long, when i joined there was a dieing risk site that i frequently played on
http://www.igl.net/grisk which came about when the other site we played on
http://www.igl.net/risk stopped hosting the game...
a buddy of mine [player]smasher_123[/player] finally convinced me to come over here and play...
when i came here i only played 1 vs 1 sequential on the classic map, thinking it would have the same skill level involved as it did on the other site...
if you own a hasbro risk cd you know that there are computer players involved ( at the other site we called them "bots")
when you set up a 1 vs 1 game there, you also have "bots" that play with you...
therefore you would have to kill the other player while also not allowing a "bot" to win...
this is where the skill came in, because if a "bot" won, then it was a draw and no win was recorded...
so when i came here i found out after a few games that the way this format is setup, whomever goes first or has one good round of dice early in a one vs one game, will win... you don't have to worry about the "bots" winning the game, and can basically just attack the other person at will... in
Game 1439113 i even made a slight comment to him as to how 1vs1 here seemed to be a wash... sure, a good player could win 60 to 70 percent, but winning 60 to 70 percent of your games on the old site would be something i considered embarrassing...
i soon learned that there was a freestyle system of play...
at first this was kinda upsetting because i did not have clickable maps and had a slow connection..
but later when this was remedied i found that i could compete with anyone, and it would come down to strategy... with the occasional 20% of games having dice or a weird drop dictate the game...
i truly believe (as do most people with a good connection, clickies, and a brain) that this is the best way to play this game... you eliminate getting hurt by having a turn order...
you still on occasion will get screwed by a bad drop though...
which is where neutral starting point maps come in, such as mogul, fuedal, oasis, etc...
on oasis a good first round attacking an oasis vs a bad first round attacking an oasis will guarantee a victory for the luckier guy...
on feudal you lesson this chance, only extremely good dice by the worse player will result in a victory...
on mogul you can almost eliminate dice from the equation... it comes down to attacking the right territory at the right point in the game... the people arguing that it is flawed are basically arguing that there isn't enough luck involved... stick KOG and herpes in 10 mogul games... same guy will win 8 or 9 out of 10 of em... (hmmm sounds interesting)
which is why the good freestyle players lean toward this map when shooting for a high rank...
do you think it is by luck that certain players almost never lose on this map?
There are only a few things that I (among others) have a problem with...
1. People systematically joining games with low ranked players in order to pad stats
2. People foeing those that present competition to them
3. People only hosting private games, therefore preventing good players from joining...
4. People playing nothing but team games with the same players against randomly partnered teams and then insinuating that they are the better players on this site...
and my point was that KOG made it to conquerer by doing none of these things...
you mentioned Rl orange and comic and poo and scotty, and i agree... i have much respect for these players... they make their bones playing singles games and taking on all challengers (well, sorta, you gotta be high ranked... but who wants to play noobs in an 8 man esc. game besides mhennigan and tai-robert

)
i don't think that you or the thota boys are bad players blitzy, it just gets a litle tiresome reading the threads of all your achievements that really don't have much merit to the everyday singles players...
just take one day and set up nothing but 1 vs 1 speed games, and don't foe anyone that beats you, and try to keep your rank (you can even play mogul if you want)...
and then maybe you'll be able to have the appreciation that the guys in the trenches have...
**** and blitzy this isn't an attack against you or anything bud, i'm sure there are plenty that equate playing nothing but mogul as cheap... all i'm trying to show is that it is logically the best chance at putting one player against another player without much luck involoved...
RL is a great 8 player sequential player, but he also has the luxary of being able to win 2 out of 8 games and still see a point increase... 1vs1 you're looking at 95% to attain conquerer...
