Anyone (*cough* snorri *cough*) that thinks free will doesn't exist because God already knew what your choice would be is an idiot.

I mean come on... think about what your telling me...

He lets you choose even though He knows you won't choose Him. That's more than fair. If I was Him I freaking shoot you with laser beams for being stupid...

I have a question for you: Has anyone explained why an omniscient being, i.e. one which knows what has happened, what is happening and what will happen, (e.g. god) is incompatible with us having free will?

I'd gladly do it but I want to know how much you already know on the subject so I know where to start.

The only people like you have with there being free will with a omniscient being is you assume God is as stupid as you...

God is good, pure, and holy. That means he does what is right... always...

Most people have a celebration in midwinter. It may be Xmas, Hannukah, Diwali, the Saturnalia, Chinese New Year, or just the solstice. It's 'cos it's going to start getting lighter, and eventually warmer. And that's nice. Aso, originally, it was the point at which you decided how much of your livestock you could feed through to spring and killed and ate the surplus.

I was thinking what Neoteny posted. I'll assume you left out the word 'problem' after 'only'. And no, in fact one needs not make any assumptions regarding the intelligence of god in showing that his knowing what a person will do before this person does it makes free will impossible.
The problem lies in the nature of knowledge, in order for something to be knowledge and not just a decent guess it has to be true, the standard definition of knowledge is "justified, true belief". We're talking about a being that by definition knows everything, that's all the justification you can ask for and more. But if god knows what we will do before we do it, then there is no choice for us to act any other way. It is logically impossible for us to be able to choose how we act and for god to know how we will act before we act. If we can choose, god can at most guess how we will act, but he cannot know until we actually do act, and if he knows, then we at most believe we have a choice. This isn't even predetermination, a prescient being is enough to make us all the slaves of external factors.

I think you'll want to respond that I've got it all wrong, that we choose and god only knows what we will choose but still lets us because he loves us. Well, that's the problem, if we can choose, god cannot know, and if god knows, we cannot choose.

I hate when people put God in a box. Just because you can't completely comprehend it doesn't make it impossible...

Spaghetti monster is teh suk, and is not allowed in this topic as of now....

In other news... I'm stuck on the swamp level of "Wonder Boy in Monster World"...

I think it's funny you claim I am unintelligent just because I disagree with you. Especially when your argument is not logical at all. Making it contradictory and you a hypocrite. Such an ignoramus person should not spout off just for the sake of his own appearance.

Reason you don't understand God = you assume He plays by your rules (SURPRISE!!! He doesn't...)

Don't play games and be all cute with me, because I can tell you don't know what you're talking about. You're just spouting popular propaganda, that you yourself have no knowledge of...

Yeah I like how you put an ellipsis at the end of every sentence, instead of a dot but you didn't know that was an ellipsis, you were just being "cool"...

Okay hear out the argument:

If god knows what's going to happen, and he knows what decision I take it means that has already been done. I do not have free will because I can't change the future because god already knows what's going to happen and it's not free will.

That's how I talk... therefore it is how I type. If you have a problem with that, then go talk to your mom... I'm sure she will convince me to stop...

God may know your decision but you don't... this makes it your fault if you miss out on eternity...
Have some balls (if you're a girl, you are excused) and take some responsibility...

It all boils down to you wanting to blame God for problems you cause...

Ex.
Let's say I build a time machine and can go into the future and see your test grades... I tell you I know your grades. Is your ability to study and prepare yourself for the test bound by what I know?
^--- That's how dumb your argument sounds...

In other news, Sullivan's new CD is amazing... I really like "The Process"...
