oaktown wrote:Hi Kap... for starters, I'm going to try to give gameplay feedback based solely on the map and the background information in the first post. If there is any gameplay information that I need to be aware of that is scattered throughout this thread, please include it in the first post.
My first question is why on earth would anybody want to attack the 10 yard target? Since it can't hit the archers it doesn't help you win, and with the negs for holding each target the +5 for holding the entire thing is a wash. If there's no benefit to capturing it,nobody will attack it and it's a waste of map space.
There are still the color bonuses. You would actually get a bonus of 24 for holding the 10 yard target. And the -1s are auto-deploy so you can use the full 24 armies for whatever you want.
Wait... there are also color bonuses per target? So, there's a bonus per target, a bonus per color, and a neg. per target? Maybe that could be simplified.
Is it really that confusing? Youre the only person who commented on that so far. I will make it easier to understand if i think of anything better. Hey wait! thats not a gameplay comment!! I'll be able to get a better picture of how a game will play out once you have an idea of how many armies each space will start with, but my immediate thought is that every game will end up being a boring build-up game as players wait for somebody else to hit the 125 army wall. And it's only one wall, right? Once it comes down it's a free-for-all!
Its gonna be insanity

C.
It would be strange and defeat the purpose of having the wall. I dont want to just throw in xml functions for the hell of it.

- same bellow "each archer: 17" or bellow word "bonuses" in top right

- word "wall" is not centered - FIXED
- smilies aren't perfectly centered and aligned
- A1-A8 aren't aligned
some of the above issues are fixed.
but to them i add the following problems.
- notes are very glowy.
- bullseye is washed
- also i'm curious where will the army numbers and terit names go on the targets especially for the small map.

Ill fix those top two things.
As for the last one: i posted army numbers on the large map somewhere- small is somewhat of an issue- There are no terit names...i dont htink theyre needed.

hold on...how do archers get attcked? and when you lose all of your archers, aren't you unable to win? why would you play once all of your archers are dead and targets cant attack.

If you lose your archer your screwed. Thats why i added the "Hold all Archers" objective- to end long games where the leader has lost his archer.

For the 40 yard target, rather than the current not very spiraly spiral, you could go Bullseye, bottom, top, bottom, top for the coloured circles. Keep them vertically centered.. In fact, do that for -all- targets then it won't even look weird.

bullseyes are always gold. they look strange if they're any other colour, with gold not being in the middle. perhaps u can swap the red and gold so that we have a gold bulleye, like ur original image, but with a red cc star on it. otherwise, the map looks fine, except that the furthest blades of grass on the horizon look like they're only an arm's length away.

I think a smaller Large Version is necessary for this map.

Not certain about that, I've seen just as many red bullseys as I have gold ones. I like it the way it is.

Done!- colours inside the targets blend into one another very poorly because of the excessive use of the blur tool
gulp...damn flat layer....Done!- above the gold word there's a weird blue line
Done!- same bellow "each archer: 17" or bellow word "bonuses" in top right
Done!- the wall has a skewed line to the right of the image. please make it straight.
Done!- smilies aren't perfectly centered and aligned
Done!- A1-A8 aren't aligned
Check this against the wall, or try drawing a straight line through them. They are aligned. - "bullseye" word in the bonuses is washed
Done!- terit names need to be added
i think they are fine. - the CC star in the name has a line to each side.
Done!- the word "gold" in the bonus legend is not vertically aligned with the other
Done!- army numbers aren't visible without army circles.
really? any other opinions on this?

Red easily won the poll.

hey kap, sorry I haven't dropped in on this thread for a while.
My opinion in my official capacity as gameplay dude is this: you have made it very clear via the legend what the archers and targets can and can not do. I think what is missing is clarity around the "wall." As the only means of attack between the archers, the wall is a central element of the the map, but right now it looks like an afterthought. It doesn't look like a wall, nor does it really make sense that the it's there in the first place. Why a wall? Are the archers shooting through it? Do they climb on it and drop down on each other to attack each other?
Perhaps what you want is not a wall at all, but a mezzanine behind the archers which all can attack and from which all can be attacked. A lobby? Waiting area? Pro Shop?
My opinion as a user is this: this map is so screaming out to look FUN! Nobody will take this map seriously because of the subject matter, the smiley faces, and the giant stacks of armies, so you may as well make it over the top. I'd like to have a cartoon bunny to shoot at - no bonus, just for thrills. Flowers in the grass? And how about cartoon grass to go with the cartoon targets and smileys? And why make all the smileys the same - you could use eight different CC smileys.
Hell, you could even animate them.
Right now the map is mildly ridiculous, which means nobody will play it more than once. If it is absolutely ridiculous, it could become the next Doodle.

You are a crazy person Oaktown
To do list:
MAKE CRAZY
about the wall, it's really for gameplay....i couldnt think of a good way to make it a part of the map. I was thinking stalls or something...but that's horses.... i dont know. I need to think about that.
