amazzony wrote:I really like this map (though I despise Soviet Union). And though it was an era between Russian Empire and Russian Empire then it shouldn't be called Russia because it was completely different. But that to that.

What's bothering me a bit is the text. I mean, actually one letter to be more exact :P Letter "R". When you turn it around like it's done in this map then it's absolutely different letter in Russian. But I guess it's a really tiny thing so not important.

And there was mentioned the mountains - they are perfect. They are exactly where they should be - Urals - the border that in different contexts is considered as the border between Asia and Europe.

Aren't a lot of other letters completely different, even ones that aren't reversed? I really don't know, that's just what I thought. Anyway, thanks for the feedback.

there are a number of cyrillic characters identical to english but entirely different, fear not.

it might be nice to have the real cyrillic, ask andrew b to help you out.

meanwhile, i found a themetune for your map

100th reply to this thread! (and update):

Changes:
-Switched colors of continents
-Made "Arctic Islands" separate from other continents
-Changed "Southern Russia" to "Southeast Russia"
-Added translation under Soviet motto
-Made river between Taymyr and Mirny flow into ocean
-Moved a few names and army circles
-Made westernmost river longer
-Speeled "Sevastopel" rite

To do:
-Mountains? I didn't change these, as I've got no idea where to go with them.
-Regarding the motto, I think that it's fine how it is. I'm not trying to say "It's my map, let me do it my way," but I don't see a solid reason to change it. IMO, Stalin best represents the USSR in one aspect, as does "Workers of the World, Unite!" in another.

i got no problem with you map, you however spelled the title wrong:
it has to be:
Пролетарии всех стран, соединайтесь!

there is no В at the enf of the last word

Update time!

Large:

Small:

Changes:
-Created small version.
-Gave Moscow a +1 bonus.
-Made Western Republics +2 instead of +3 (because it is next to Moscow).
-Changed translation of motto to "Workers of the world, unite!"
-Fixed typo in Russian motto, I think.
-Took out ocean route between Caucasus and Turkmenistan.
-Shortened "Novosibirskiye Ostrova" to "Novo. Ostrova."
-Took out blue-green line in mountain texture.
-Moved around army circles and country names.

To do:
-Mountains? :)

I'm not sure what to tell you on mountains. If you could come up with a nice repeatable/layer-able symbol similar to the really pretty army circles you have that would probably be best.

The realistic geography effect clashes with the clean classic look of everything else. :(

I liked it as "Proletariats of the world unite" better than "workers". Made me feel more sophistimacated.

Other than that, I think just some touching up of the mountains is need.

I'd rather see Lenin up there than Stalin but personal choice I guess.

terr names on te small may be a bit of a problem, but i think a light stroke around them could counter this problem.

other than that this is a very nice map pep

pep, you need to make all the bonuses with 3 borders +3.

how could you hold a bonus with 3 borders and only get 2 for holding it?

Central Asia is two because you can easily expand to Kazahkstan. Western Republics would be 3, but Moscow is right next to it, which gives a +1 bonus, so I brought it down one.

Because during the time of the Soviet Union, they were largely uninhabited.

whys that a reason not to give them a bonus? if there worth no bonus then might as well not make them territorys.

Consider Antarctica in World 2.0, the two seas in Alexander's Empire, and the ports in Global Warming. These act as a sort of "highway" around the map. No bonus simulates that they're of no use to defend, but they can help get to different places on the map, or help defend a larger continent.

I request this map to be put on Final Forge. Nobody can really think of anything else to make it better.
