ok, good point, but you have to consider what they did in your calculations. I look at it like this. Great, being george washington or FDR. Terrible/Horrible just the opposite. It really all in the wording.

first of all, 'looking at this academically'? what the hell do you mean by that?
secondly, if we are looking at things 'academically' I'd say people such as Galileo Galilee, Isaac Newton, or Albert Einstein, and each of their respective discoveries and inventions are more impressive than just being a charismatic speaker(hitler) or a son of a leader(saddam). Sure, what Hitler did to get Germany out of the depression years before America did is impressive, his speeches are impressive compared to an average person, but hes a little piece of shit on the bottom of Galileo's shoe in comparison.

So don't compare him to Galileo, simple as that. You could use that same argument about Ghengish Khan, Alexander the Great, Cesear and any other famous 'great' leader, but its not really fair to compare a politician or a conquerer to a inventor, the same way its not fair to compare a soldier to a scientist (the soldiers risking his life, while the scientists doing other shit).
The impact that anyone scientist or philosopher made is questionable anyways, chances are their idea would've been invented sometime or later in their lifetime, they just got to it first. I don't know much about Galileo though, but he might be an exception and thought way ahead of his time. I forget who said it but there's a qoute 'I only see so far now because I stand on the shoulders of Giants'.

i meant that we're putting morality aside and looking at this. not many would say hitler is a great man for the Jews, homosexuals, cripples, retards, gypsies, etc. he killed, but for his feats in military strategy.

I don't think he was that great as a strategist. at Stalingrad, it definatly showed there. Possibly what he did was 'take control of these areas and these areas' and let his generals take control of what to do whilst taking those areas.

yes. busted! i'm a true american..i do know a little bit about some cultures, you know...just not in-depth..i usually regret what i say when people quote me and refute it..and, i was just replying to that guy who said hitler was not great if you look at it from a humane point of view, and i was just saying how other people considered him great for his...almost conquering all of europe...
