I went to a large Lutheran event in Florida for several days that talked about how we are CHOSEN: CHOSEN by God, CHOSEN with Others, and CHSOEN to the World.

So who's Chosen, is it those who are Christian or only Lutherans?

I say all true Christians are CHOSEN, not just Lutherans. My definition of a Christian is anybody who believes in God and what He did for us.

John 3:18 ESV
Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.

Kaboom! Yeah, that's proof. Nobody can prove the cause of the beginning of the universe because no one was around to observe it.

Actually it can be almost proved. Scientists detected that light coming from other galaxies was always shifted towards the red end of the spectrum and the longer wavelength of red light means that they are moving away from us and are also accelerating away. (Dopplar effect). An explosion would cause such an effect. The scientists then reasoned that background radiation of about 3 Kelvin should still be around if such an almighty explosion ever took place. This was also detected and so the Big Bang is the most likely theory for creation.

Nevertheless, I still believe in God and that he was responsible for the Big Bang and creation as a whole. I believe that the opening chapters of Genesis are figurative for God creating the Universe via the Big Bang

Please don't use bible quotes as evidence... they are hardly a reliable source

What I find funniest about religion is the massive amount of religions and sects - all thinking they're theory is correct. But there is so many different ones, which is almost proof to me that they're all misleading. I don't have a theory of how I think the world started, I don't think it really matters at all.

Also, this thread wasn't about religion... take it back to the other thread

So is someone trying to say that the destruction of Christianity or Catholic would be a tragedy?

Next time, just say 'The Roman Catholic Church.' What you said needs to be fixed to Catholicism, and yes, to Roman Catholics, it would be a great tragedy.

Pope Benedict put it nicely, in regards to creationism and evolutionism.

B16 wrote:“They are presented as alternatives that exclude each other,” the Pope said.

“This clash is an absurdity because on one hand there is much scientific proof in favour of evolution, which appears as a reality that we must see and which enriches our understanding of life and being as such.”

But he said evolution did not answer all the questions and could not exclude a role by God.

“Above all it does not answer the great philosophical question 'where does everything come from?'“

As to my own thoughts on said philosophical question, please see the agnostic thread.

http://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=23812&highlight=

As a side note, the Big Bang doesn't explain where everything came from either. Again, see the above thread.

Pure chance, outside influence, almost anything. I posted my thoughts on the matter in the Agnostic Thread, but, unfortunatly, they were never replied to

Anyway, as I said before, if you want to discuss religion, take it to the Christianity Thread.
I'm supprised this hasn't been locked already. :?

That system of government, although called Communism was, in reality, just a (super) Capitalist Dictatorship. It may have called itself whatever it wanted, but there is no denying what it actually was.

How did you arrive at your current beliefs?

I knew there was something I missed on my replying rounds

The point of life is freedom, yes? Therefore, a life without freedom is a wasted life. A life spent doing what a government, or even just another human bieng is essentially a wasted one, because that person had no chance to make his/her own decisions.

That is a very, very brief summary.

its a tragedy when people believe what they experience and what they know is all that is(apart from being massively illogical), its a tragedy when people think only about themselves, and never about others, its a tragedy when people choose to close their minds.

It's a tragedy when humans only care about making money.

I know I should know what that means, but I'm forgetting it at the moment, but if it means that I think it's a pity for what humanity has done to the enviroment and everything, then yes. I hate the human race for everything it's done.

It's nice to see that someone in Conquer Club does care about nature since most people fail to acknowledge the good side of it.

It's a tragedy that people believe in global warming when 30 years ago everyone was worried about global cooling which was "caused" by the same things that "cause" global warming.

Note: My mind is not made up about global warming, it's just funny how we went from worrying about the next Ice Age to worrying about the Ice Caps melting in a matter of 30 years. Not to mention they are both blamed on the same thing, greenhouse gases.

Don't worry, global cooling will eventually make a comeback. When it does though, all capitalist countries will still be blamed for causing it.
