The symmetric 哥哥 means /gēge/ = brother but in a respectful way. Some translate this to "'older brother" but the brother does not have to be older in age.. Just in respect. Small variations that can never be translated in the exact meaning of the word.
In Cantonese (Jyutping): its pronounced go1-4 go1, go1 go1 ("go1" = in the end all pronounced in English as "koh")
In Min Nan (Hokkien, POJ) it's ko-ko / ko--koh
In Mandarin, 高 The surname 高 (Ko in Hokkien, Gao in Mandarin) - [Gao / Ko] means: high, tall, above average, loud, your (honorific).
Is that not a nice way to discribe your brother you respect so much?
I certainly would discribe you as "Go1" (pronounced "koh")- or "your (honorific)" - or "elder brother" in CC. You have my utmost respect.
哥
go1 go1*4 jyutping
ge1 pinyin
[1] elder brother (in a family)
[2] brother (term of address for an elder male)
It's all pronounced "KOH" (Ko)
This character 哥 is used in both Cantonese and Mandarin/Standard written Chinese.
The funny thing about this name is "Koh" (ko) is it's also a surname in various cultures. Its languages of origin include Chinese, but also German (via its Serbo-Croatian spelling), and Korean.
But ofcourse you already know this josKO
