You'll probably be needing a form of this for your jump gates:
Code: Select all
<continent>
<name>Any 4 Kings</name>
<bonus>5</bonus>
<components>
<component>Red King</component>
<component>Green King</component>
<component>Blue King</component>
<component>Purple King</component>
<component>Yellow King</component>
</components>
<required>4</required>
</continent>
That's the only part I think you'll need help on as the math for that is going to get a little weird. But I think yeti_c or myself could work out a group of those that would cover it.
Plus I'm not 100% on if that is the way lack implemented that or not. I think it is.

Well, I like the new jump gates, as well as the new bonus structure for them.
Two minor spelling mistakes: in the legend, its Kuiper belt, and in the asteroid belt, its Gefion family (dont ask how i know that).
This map is coming along nicely, in my opinion the major problem now is reducing the clutter.

Once you have the <required> tags in you will need to flow the <overrules> tags to stop the lower ones taking effect...

Oh wow, he made it easy then. I didn't know about that feature. Is there a guide posted somewhere that I missed?
Edit: Sorry for the slight hijack I probably should have asked this over pm.

1. Ha, I win again!! (My jump gate bonus suggestion) lol
2. Dang, I checked for spelling mistakes and thought I had found them.
3. How is it too cluttered?? (B/c I'm not sure what you mean.)

Bad Speler I'm with you that it's a lot to look at but i think once one settles into playing it it will become more comfortable. I think the big thing is that this map is a divergence from the normal style. Most maps are mostly bounded territories, where as this map is mostly points with attack lines. I think after 100 games of the classic style a new style can be unfamiliar at first.
I if you have specifics I'd love to hear them. Or If I've totally missed your point I'd be interested in that too.

Wow. Good catch. I wasn't sure if anyone was checking the spacey names. (added to the todo list attached with the latest version on page 8)

So you would put
<overrules>
Prior Rule I'd Like Not To Count If This Rule Is True</overrules>
after the <required> tags, and that would stop the processing of the other rule? And If i have multiple such rules I'd need multiple <overrules> I take it, yes?
I wish I'd known that before i figured out the crazy factorial math.
If anyone has a link to an authoritative post or thread or FAQ of CC XML features, I'd love that. I cant find it.

I don't know about the money orders, and I'm already liking the map. So will I get to field test this map (no points??) before it's released???

If there is a beta testing capability I'd love to put it through the paces. When the XML gets close to done I'll ask for volunteers. (your already on the list of specific invitees in my head)

How long does it take to create the XML?? And is that going to be the main change in your next release or are you going to make more map changes and then create the XML??

Again, not sure if this has been pointed out, but Neptune is now harder to hold than Uranus (3 instead of 2) with the same bonus.

True, and Uranus is only one bigger overall. So does Neptune become a 4 (Saturn has 2 with a gate and 4 without and Asteroid Belt has 3 with gate and 4 without) or does Uranus become a 2 ? ( worth about the same as Plutinos or surface of Jupiter)

It will take a few days for me to gin up a first go. The next release is due in a few minutes with the little BS on the list on page 8.
There is already an open question about region bonuses. so i'll probably make at least one more change after that. And then who knows how many "I think such-and-such is one pixel too much to the right" comments I'll get.

67 Territories, 7 regions, 6 sub-regions, Alternating Jump Gate Bonus
*
XML.
Changes:
- Some of the routes from low orbit to a gas giant surface truncate at the edge of the planet. Fix!
- Titan is too close to the key
- moving signature down to the bottom right (the sun).
- connect Rings and Saturn Low Orbit with heavier line
- add an 's to all the planets that have orbits (i.e Saturn's Low Orbit).
- Two minor spelling mistakes: in the legend, its Kuiper belt, and in the asteroid belt, its Gef
ion family
- "JANS" from "NEPTUNE'S TROJANs" lower than the rest of the word completed in v0.9.1 (07/05/2007)
- The spacing of the jump gates' legend is quite weird. completed in v0.9.1 (07/05/2007)
- Preliminary XML. completed in v0.9.1 (07/06/2007)
- XML overrules error in v0.9.2 (07/07/2007)
Remaining Tasks (THIS LIST IS UPDATED UNTIL THE NEXT VERSION)
- Make Small Map
- Add neutral start positions on JG in XML
- Fix Large map coordinates
- Get the masses to sign off on bonus structure
- make it so the belt color doesn't show through the army circles.
- Make Uranus' uniform on key
- connection between Rings and SLO is better, it's still hard to see
- In the key where you list the Jump Gate Bonuses, make those lines for the chart similar to the outside border or something else "galactic".
- make the Asteroid Belt disappear from the army circles.
- In the key, put commas between Pluto, Charon, and Orcus

I have to say that I'm very impressed with the progress you've made.
I do have a couple minor nitpicky things that I don't think anyone has mentioned.
1. Why is the "JANS" from "NEPTUNE'S TROJANs" lower than the rest of the word?
2. The spacing of the jump gates' legend is quite weird. It'd be nicer looking if it was all centered like you entered the numbers into an excel document so everything is spaced evenly. Maybe actually enter it into excel and do a printscreen so you can match it up easily?

Now that you've pointed it out it does look jank to me. I may not do it "excel style" but I will make it look nice. Added to list

I'm starting to quite like this map now.
You've done a great job reducing the clutter and the legend and the map itself looks great.
There are oly a few problems I can think of at this time.
The yellow of Saturn is a bit bright. Maybe tone it down a bit, but that could lead to it being very hard to see. Do a bit of experimenting.
It will probably be hard to see the number of armies in the Asteroid Belt regions because of the colour going over them. Either move the army circles upwards or downwards so they are no longer in the Belt, or make it so the belt colour doesn't cover the army cicles.
Shouldn't Eris be clasified as part of the Kuiper Belt objects?
Why aren't the High Orbits part of the planets which they come from?

the glow, the color of the planet or the accent (region) color?

I just did a little test. It's not great. I'll fix it. Added to the List
Nope its a scattered disk object. I would love to add about 3 dozen more things but I fear the contributers to this thread will kill me if I "clutter" the map.
Eris According to Wikipediathe Kuiper Belt According to WikipediaWhy aren't the High Orbits part of the planets which they come from?
The conception of the orbits is that the lower orbit is a sub-natural satellites orbit (like were our satellites, space station, and shuttle tend to be) and that the High Orbit is a combination of an extreme planetary orbit out past the natural satellites (so out past the moons) and the planetary solar orbit (so the whole ellipse the planet travels on around the sun). So one could conceivably be in say Saturn's "solar orbit" (high) but not be anywhere near Saturn.

I personally think adding the 's does look better. But it needs to be Uranus's (I know it looks weird, but it's correct.). You have it correct in the key.
Although that connection between Rings and SLO is better, it's still hard to see.
In the key where you list the Jump Gate Bonuses, make those lines for the chart similar to the outside border or something else "galactic". (Yes, it's the second time I've used that word, but the first time worked!) Separating those two boxes with a separate border was a nice touch.
I agree with making the Asteroid Belt disappear from the army circles. (Good luck with that one!)
The signature is much better where it is.
And for the heated bonus discussion that's about to ensue: I vote on raising each main bonus by 1 except for Neptune. I think that will solve most of the complaints. You may also consider raising the bonus of holding 5 or 7 Jump Gates up 1 each (to 4 and 5 respectively). Don't adjust the negative ones!
In the key, put commas between Pluto, Charon, and Orcus.
Great work in such a short time! Keep it up!
