i messed around with the colours and this is what i got:

i understand. nope sorry but the bill of rights map is not abandoned. it's just on vacation so the board will be used on that map not on this one. and i don't want to use it in both

i too prefer the map without colours around the symbols but people complain they can't see them

Dim have you tried making the whole territory of each resource shaded? If you use really light colors and blend it from light to lighter it might look better than just the outline you've got now
Point 1
========
All Resources on one island plus market =
+2 for one resource and market
+2 for other resource and market
+2 for both resources and market
= +6 for holding 3 territories?
I think you shouldn't get the +2 for holding both so it only equates to +4?
========
Point 2
========
Resource on 1 island, Market on another plus connecting harbours
= +4.
If you have both resources on that island then this doubles to plus 8.
If you have both resources and the market on the resource island this equals
+4 +4 +2 +2 +2 = +14... (See point 1)
Thus +14 bonus for holding 6 territories?
I think that the foreign markets should only be Plus 2 again?
+14 turns to +10... (with above suggestion +8)
========

i thought of doing that but after looking at various old maps i never saw this done. they either had outlines on the territories (like i have on the continents) or they had outlines on the important stuff (like i have on the resources) or they had no outlines (the way i really like it). and i only want to use one of these three options.

maybe do it for the next poll, if the two maps are side by side hopefully everyone will see how much better the icons are without colours.
yes. i'll ask a mod to remove the poll. i think it's clear people don't want continent bonuses

yes i guess you're right. also there will be the default bonus for holding territories so i guess you have a valid point. remove the bonus for holding all resources and market from one continent. but i think for the foreign market there should still be an advantage. maybe +3 instead of +4, afterall you still have to bother conquering 2 more harbours.
or maybe something like this.
R+M on same continent +1
R+M on different conts +connecting harbours +2
all R + M on same continent +1

+3 sounds much better...
I know how to code this up now by the way - I've deduced the logic - the updated xml will be with you either later or tomorrow.

Do you want bonuses for continents? (besides those for resources)
Yes 37% [ 6 ]
No 62% [ 10 ]

Treasure shouldn't have an outline.
Cattle should. Or a better icon... A single Cow instead of a Herd?
Market needs the outline closer.
Shells and Iron Ore work with the outline
Harbour needs a better icon - the lines are too bitty.

PS There is no outline on Falta's X... however X's look way better without outline!!
PPS Also I think the Islands should have names themselves... will make the theme fit even tighter...
PPS: i could write the island names on the background of each island.
i'll post an image soon. right now i'm cooking something

done with cooking and eating. here are the names. they may not be clear to some but they are really only for decorative reasons because continents have no bonus

you're a young merchant that inherited an old ship from his dearly beloved (but dead) uncle. so you decide to go to remote far away lands to seek fame and fortune. you get a hold of this map and travel with good winds. now because money just does not flow into your pockets by itself you have to sweat a little. conquer resource teritories and market territories and transport the goods. after you've established a good base on an island, there's no point in stopping there, conquer harbours and transport resources to neighbouring markets but everything goes well until you see there are other adventurers on this area, fight with them and defeat them and if you feel like playing dirty get friendly with local pirates, there's allways some booty waiting to be looted. in an Age of Merchents you must become the King of Merchants
