Yes, you do. You can't do whatever the hell you want with enemy combatants, or illegal combatants, or non-citizens, or whatever other term might be used. They are all human beings and have inherent rights.

They wrote something in Geneva about that, while back.

Ah, nothing like a bit of hypocricsy, is there...

It's ok to invade a country if you're from the US of A, is that right?

Speaking of stupid, I'd point to the correlation that you just attempted to make. You don't think there might be another reason they don't have a terrorism problem?

I would like the conversation to go this way...

Interrogator: So are you like a soldier for Islam waging war against the evil Godless USA?
Terrorist: Yes! Blah blah blah (insert random preaching here) awesome.
Interrogator: Excellent, so let me see now, not in uniform, not as part of a recognisable militia, not on the battlefield and sneaking about our territory. Well don't worry sir you will be given full rights under the geneva conventions!
Terrorist: Awesome! Bring me a muffin, and a lawyer! Maybe a PS3 as well.
Interrogator: No sir, I said your full rights under the Geneva conventions.
Terrorist: A fad whad of compensation!
Interrogator: No, we are going to torture you, then execute you.
Terrorist: Wtf!

Well, you can do whatever you want with them. It's just not right to do so.

Frankly, someone else said it better somewhere in this thread, but if the guy is tried and he is found guilty, he's going to spend his life in jail with people who are probably going to hate him. That's not really a bad thing.

... Does the US Constitution apply to all people, of all nations? Are the enemies(aka perps) of the US but future defendents in US courts?

Obviously not. It applies to the citizens and the institutions of the USA.

would you like to define "whatever the hell you want to do"? in other words, what is it that you fear might be done? What has been done that is against the Geneva Convention? Please address these questions, and not just 1 of them

AGAIN

at which point between an Idealogical Army of terrorists, and an offical army with a gov't declaration of war, are all bets off?

Do most of you acknowledge there is such a time as "all bets are off"?

Never and no. As for your other question:

Phatscotty wrote:would you like to define "whatever the hell you want to do"? in other words, what is it that you fear might be done? What has been done that is against the Geneva Convention? Please address these questions, and not just 1 of them

You can never do anything to them that you wouldn't do to your run of the mill criminal. If they're a prisoner of war, we have rules for that. If they're a terrorist, put them through a trial like any other mass murderer.

Scotty, if all his rights are trampled where does it stop?

Do you execute illegal immigrants? Why not, they aren't citizens and under your ideology have no rights. Who's next? Shop lifters?

Do you think China respects human rights? Apparently by your logic the USA shouldn't. Is the USA then any better than China?

As per usual in the fora, there is a question that remains unanswered... namely, if a suspected terrorist is tried and found guilty, what, exactly is the issue if we put him on trial instead of executing/torturing him?

Truth serum? Please. You watch too many movies...

For the record, sodium pentothal doesn't really work. It makes you more relaxed and open, to such an extent that it will be a lot easier to spill your guts on whatever, but it's just as likely to make you talk total bullshit than it is to make you spill the truth.

It's a simple barbiturate, as such it's probably no more effective than getting the subject properly wasted with a few shots of good whiskey...

Yo, you know the CIA also uses reefer and meth too, right? I've also heard they'll get captives hooked on morphine, or horse, and then use another fix as incentive to talk.

Wait, you mean, what's the difference between trying and punishing a guy through the legal system as opposed to trying and punishing his face with a tire iron?

1) He gets his day in court the same as anyone else, whether they are a serial killer, rapist, or suicide bomber. Our laws are what differentiate us from these terrorists. If we choose to ignore the law, we erase the distinctions between us and them.

2) To do anything else makes him a martyr, and you should realize you can never completely kill a martyr, the reasons for his sacrifice live on.

3) Any attempts of the terrorist's to to sue for assault will be rightly laughed out the door, I truly do not understand why that was part of the poll.

4) Torture seems an unlikely way to get accurate information out of the bastard, offering to cut a deal for say, a healthier prison that he will be spending the rest of his life in for information on anyone who helped supply him with his materials for his bombs or other useful information.

OH, but regarding this issue. Don't be so ridiculous. How would an "all bets are off" policy be productive?

You can be reasonable all you want, but people have already closed their minds. People like Phatty DODGE the hard questions and reasons and leave a lame trail of "record high poppy plants" or ignore not2you's posts (among many others) and roam around for something pointless to throw up here.
