Religion easily has the greatest bullshit story ever told.

Think about it. Religion has actually convinced people that there's an invisible man -- living in the sky -- who watches everything you do, every minute of every day. And the invisible man has a special list of ten things he does not want you to do. And if you do any of these ten things, he has a special place, full of fire and smoke and burning and torture and anguish, where he will send you to live and suffer and burn and choke and scream and cry forever and ever 'til the end of time!

But He loves you.

He loves you, and He needs money! He always needs money! He's all-powerful, all-perfect, all-knowing, and all-wise, somehow just can't handle money! Religion takes in billions of dollars, they pay no taxes, and they always need a little more.

Now, you talk about a good bullshit story.

You know who I pray to? Joe Pesci. Two reasons; first of all, I think he's a good actor. Okay. To me, that counts. Second; he looks like a guy who can get things done. Joe Pesci doesn't f*ck around. In fact, Joe Pesci came through on a couple of things that God was having trouble with. For years I asked God to do something about my noisy neighbor with the barking dog. Joe Pesci straightened that cock-sucker out with one visit.

I noticed that of all the prayers I used to offer to God, and all the prayers that I now offer to Joe Pesci, are being answered at about the same 50 percent rate. Half the time I get what I want. Half the time I don't. Same as God 50-50. Same as the four leaf clover, the horse shoe, the rabbit's foot, and the wishing well. Same as the mojo man. Same as the voodoo lady who tells your fortune by squeezing the goat's testicles. It's all the same; 50-50. So just pick your superstitions, sit back, make a wish and enjoy yourself.

And for those of you that look to the Bible for it's literary qualities and moral lessons; I got a couple other stories I might like to recommend for you. You might enjoy The Three Little Pigs. That's a good one. It has a nice happy ending. Then there's Little Red Riding Hood. Although it does have that one X-rated part where the Big Bad Wolf actually eats the grandmother. Which I didn't care for, by the way. And finally, I've always drawn a great deal of moral comfort from Humpty Dumpty. The part I liked best: "and all the king's horses, and all the king's men couldn't put Humpty together again." That's because there is no Humpty Dumpty, and there is no God. None. Not one. Never was. No God.

There are many celebrity atheists besides George Carlin. Mickey Roonie was, (not anymore  ) Christopher Reeves (again was but no longer is). And ya gotta love the twisted views of God atheists have as presented in the above post. "it is said a man is to die once and then the judgement"

I'll bold the truth in that quote.

Blah blah blah

George Carlin just isn't that funny. Jay is right, in the face if every reasoned, logical argument presented to him. Some people believe the earth is flat. The bible is the literal truth except where I decide it isn't. Yawn. Caleb wants everyone else dead. And he's right.

What reasoned, logical argument? The Bible is the Word of God period.

Science = based on logic and reasoning.

Evolution = a theory based on reason, evidencer and logical assuumptions.

Believing the bible is the word of god = nothing to do with reason or logic.

I'm not dissing your beliefs here, just pointing out that they have nothing to do with logic or science.

Believing that the Bible is the word of God is one thing. This thread has used science and logic to establish that there is indeed a God.

Bullshit. This thread does nothing but give you a chance to quote cultish verse from some ancient book and those with a brain in their head to mock you.

Quite entertaining actually. Tell us again how your right and everyone else is wrong.

Give me these supposed scientific, logical proofs of God, I must have missed them between all the rebuttals. Even one will will satisfy me.

No... you had a go and were shot down in flames. Jay - listen - your belief is not rooted in science, is it? "Science" came up with evolution and a billion-year-old earth. Geology, biology, genetics, palaentology - all branches of science that are at odds with your belief.

As for logic - as vtmarik said, proof denies faith. With proof you don't need faith - and if there WAS proof surely the whole world would agree with you.

I do not understand how you missed that.

ONE MORE TIME: I am not dissing your beliefs. But they have NOTHING - ZERO - ZILCH - NADA - to do with science or logic. OK? Understand?

Well, I didn't say that originally, I just quoted Douglas Adams.

"ah, " said god. "I hadn.t thought of that" and promptly disappears in a puff of logic - man sets out to prove black is white and gets run over at the next zebra crossing...

Sorry Jay, you will have to continue living your fantasy without me. ;) I dont believe that the bible is written by a god or told to someone by a god, or written through someone by a god.

It's a fine book intended to give people a compass by which to lead their life, true. There are many good things written in it, I do not deny that.

But...to me it's just that. A book of stories...and thus the house of cards falls without the foundation.

You have good intentions Jay, but there is no god. When we die, we become fertilizer (or dust depending on your burial method). Humans have a very difficult time with this finality and want something more. Hence the faith, stories, etc.

Ed Weathers said it best:

"Religion is superstition. It is mankind crossing its fingers. Its sole functions are 1) to comfort and console those who cannot bear the suffering and death that are ultimately the lot of every human being, and 2) to offer meaning in a world where meaning can never be established. Religion, in other words, is a fortress of lies built to keep out the terrors of existence and nonexistence. For those in power, it is useful in still another way: Since time immemorial, the powerful have used religion to distract the oppressed, to encourage them to focus on the next world so that they will acquiesce to the injustices of this world. If you would have your slaves remain docile, teach them hymns."

Brilliant.

Wow. I just noticed that jay is 67th in the rankings with a score of 1757. I'm going to have to start watching what I say in here or else jay might start joining my games and kicking my ass right off the map. Good to see you've got game, jay. Too bad the world is going to end so soon. Will there be board games of "heaven domination" in the afterlife?

To quee:

Now science has said, Life cannot come from non-life. Which is common sense... a rock will never reproduce since it is not living.

Then you trace back all life to its orgin...the very first living thing.

Where did it come from?

The ONLY answer is someting or someone has always existed. And that someone or something must have the power to create (or reproduce).

There must be a God.

To Jolly Roger:

Yeah, I got game. But I'm even better at the game of life. And I do not know if there will be games like CC in heaven.

To everyone else:

There are no atheists on the other side.
