Nononono, Iran/Nigeria was the worst by far.

It's fortunate for the world that we didn't get to see Greece-Nigeria, a matchup like that might have bored the viewer to death.

France has had a couple of good chances, really good chances and when you don't put those in the net you rarely win.

Nigeria looked strong today, just couldn't hold it together for the full 90. Good game, not a surprising result. Let's go Algeria! lol

The French match went about as expected
and the German's should be similar.

I can easily accept USA as an underdog vs Belgium,
as I didn't expect them to make it out of group.

A great American coach? Maybe, but surrendering
the equalizer to Portugal in the final 10 seconds
wasn't evidence of the skipper's skills.

They did win Euro 2004 and have been jammy in the World Cup to even get to the knockouts.

Felt sorry for the dude who missed though.

f*ck Greece.

I'm sure that's what you meant to say

More or less ;) (their team, I hold nothing against the greeks in particular)

For sure, this is the world cup thread after all. No self respecting European football fan can like the Greeks after Euro 2004.

what a night, now germany will face france,
now this worldcup gets exciting,
but i will be able to watch usa v belgium, another interesting game
i think it will be very hard for usa tomorrow, but i keep my fingers crossed

France germany it is. We are the underdogs. We ve got some unfinished business after platini's generation got kicked out of semis in 82 and 86 by them. Neuer seems unstopable.... We ll see!

So:

Brazil vs colombia
France vs germany

Netherlands vs costa rica
Argentina? Vs belgium?

First half Germany was lucky not to get a goal by Algeria, second half I was acutally missing Neuer to score a goal  still undecided wheter what he did was driven by a touch of genius or sheer lunacy

The skipper is the captain, not the coach.

Supposedly Mattuidi should've been sent off but I didn't see the challenge. If so it's just another crap mistake by another crap referee.

I really do not want Brazil to win the cup.

yup we had a bit of help.
French journalists admit that there was a penalty from evra on a nigerian player in the first half and that matuidi should've been sent off. The goal they scored in the first half was offside ideed, but barely. Many refs could've let it go (although it isn't unfair that it has been cancelled)
Anyway, we do win by 2 goals and nigerians shouldn't ve been there in the first place as they benefitted from a ref mistake to make it through.

And steiner, all I see is that you guys win the games that count! ;)

otherwise I'm surprised to see that we are leading 11-5-8 in our games vs you guys.

France and Germany haven't met in any championship for almost 30 years... I guess that's why there isn't that much rivalry anymore.... because my god, those 1982 semi finals were a national trauma the medias always talk about over 30 years later. Not much to say about 1986, too bad cause we had eliminated brazil in 1/4 finals and again platini failed to win a world cup.
Not to mention the champions league final in the late 70s between platini's saint etienne and beckenbauher and muller's bayern munchen that they lost quite inexplicably. The big france-germany rivalry was definitely in the 70s-80s, 90s-00s for us were definitely the italians!

But most important of all, aren't you glad that France does not have play Algeria? That would have been akin to a home match between Fenerbahce vs. Galatasaray or Celtics vs. Rangers and the suburbs of any city with more than 10.000 inhabitants in France would have gone up in flames accompanied by the tune of "ma té-ci va ké-cra" no matter what the result of the game would have been

yeah a france vs algeria could've been quite something.... although I fear less their team than the german! ;)
I sure wouldn't leave my car outside in case of a france vs algeria!

Algeria inpressed the hell out of me, in total this was one of the best games so far in the tournament, and that's despite it being goalless for the first 90 minutes. I'll remember that game when this tournament is over, even though it was late at night when it finished I had no problem staying awake watching it. My tea cup was untouched when I went to bed, untouched.

Today I'm looking forward to two things, finding out if Argentina is a contender to be reckoned with this year, and watching american dreams getting crushed. :D

Ha ha ha... Go USA! The Swiss have had some great chances come up empty and Argentina is such a tease in the box as the defenders repeated can't clear the ball. Yet it's all nil at the half.
