Oh. Wait. Obama did that. Now we're just waiting for the r&d to get the program up and running.
You are WAY out of date. Although Bush, et al have gutted the programs heavily, our National Institute for Health is still a prime funder of all health research and development.
The thing is few know of it all because they are statutorially forbidden from ANY type of lobbying at all. (they cannot call up a congressman unless specifically invited and then may only answer questions, not offer information).
Also, they have to give make information available freely to private companies, who can then patent and sell the benefits.
What brain surgeon in Congress set up THAT system? <sigh>
Pressure from pharmaceautical companies.
I believe it...it makes sense. And it's disgusting.

No, I realize NIH still funds R&D for health research, but in that statement the program I referred to is national healthcare; health insurance for all Americans including a gov't insurance option. The r&d we're waiting on, is for congress and senate to pass a bill.
***edited to fix player name (pesky quotes lmao

first, you got the quote wrong (I fixed it above).
Ironically, I am now taking issue with the most recent modifications, precisely because it seems the government options are being watered down to nothing, though I don't know how much is official and how much of this is just talk. However, apparently, the insurance companies and such (NOT doctors, nurses) have made sure that any government option will, as now, be the policy for the people who are really sick or poor. So, hopes for a national system or a government plan that might actually save money is disappearing.

Uh...I didn't say what you quoted up there.

Agreed; when fixes are made that do not fix the real problems, they're not fixes at all. You do realize now, I'm sure, that the insurance companies shooting for those changes does lend credence to the ideas that insurance companies are whacking our healthcare into out of control costs for their own benefit. Have you ever had to consider suing an insurance company that wouldn't pay out? I have; unfortunately, no attorney would take even a clear-cut case, their responses were all in the lines of, "The insurance company has too many attorneys on retainer to drag this out for years; you can't afford the costs, and they'd bankrupt me if I took it on contingency."

Uh.. you are preaching to the choir here. Lawsuits are often not even an option, because you usually have to agree to "arbitration". Further, some of the worst abuses happen before payout. Doctors are "gatekeepers". If the insurance company refuses to pre-authorize you for anythig but an emergency, you can forget even getting care.
I have spent 2 years fighting objections to EVERY claim except my well pregnancy visits. Worse, hospitals, tired of dealing with bills, have not taken the "wonderful" step of hiring bill collectors. So, now not only do you have to deal with recovering, try to fight the hospital and doctors over errors, but you get these wonderful people who see no problem with calling you 5 times in an hour telling you basically you have no rights, pay up or they will keep harassing you until you do. And THAT for a bill really did not have to pay! (and no, I never got anything close to an apology from anyone).

... From the freakin' White House". President issuing marching orders to his organized thugs... He has also summoned the union bosses to get involved in beating down these protests ... Talk about fascist and brown-shirt. ... freakin' lovely, shades of Europe, 1930's.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/08/0 ... 52720.html... The link to the story on the brawl in Tampa over this issue is so busy it won't download (Drudge headline). I wonder if there was a clash there bewteen the two groups?
...
Yeah no kidding. If anyone is acting like the Nazis it's the white house. Don't forget to nark on your neighbor if you believe he/she has the audacity to disagree with the President.

... That nark site at the white house is spooky. Folks in disagreement with Obamacare (though "PelosiCare" might be a more accurate label) are now being sent e-mails from the white house, disuading them.
... Once those e-mails are sent, do you think the e-mail addresses are purged or deleted? Nope, pesent law dicates they remain on white house records for a decade.
... So you post on a blog your dislike of proposed policy... somebody "rats you out", white house send you a nasty-gram ... and keeps your name and e-mail address on file for ten years.
... Lovely.

Reproting neighbors to each others leader is bad. sitting around and pointing fingers about who started asking for reports is UNEXCUSEABLE
