I know you never said earlier that iz man was wrong about the american people making the bomb. The thing is he is completely wrong. Most of the people involved in the manhattan project were actually German Jews who had seeked refuge there during world war two. And most great american scientists aren't even from here.

On the middle point: If resources are the only factor in development, then why is Africa so helplessly backwards? Last I'd heard, Africa has more resources than the USA. And they had just as much time as the Europeans. Exploitation? We didn't get into what is commanly labeled 'Imperialism' until the Spanish-American war. And by every logical assessment, we still aren't in that business.

What I was refering to was resources available. Africa may have large resource reserves, but it is really only large, international companies which have the ability to access more than the surface deposits. Therefore, African governments will sell off these resources which it can't access, and, low and behold, when they reach a point when they can access these resources and finally become stable and wealthy, they discover they no longer own them.

The international companies triumph and it's just another setback for the natives.

While you were addressing Iz Man, I'd like to respond to this. When I was saying that I live in the "best country in the world" I'm not saying that I think Americans are better than other people of the world. I'm just extremely happy to be here and live in such a wonderful country. I'm not sure why that is such a terrible thing to say. Anyway, that's probably where most of the confusion is coming from here in this thread.

I'm sure lots of people feel patriotic towards their respective countries.

Everyone who has any respect for their country should feel patriotic. Well said luns.

Guess, what I don't have respect for the USA.

Why be proud of any country?

Be proud when they do the right thing, not when they do the wrong thing.

America doesn't do the right thing often.

actually we may be going back to the moon again. it turns out that there is a lot of helium3 there. currently there are tokamak fusion reactors in san diego USA that we are developing that require the he3. these reactors are 100% efficient and can supply the power of a star (kinda like spiderman 2) to the whole world. these also create no greenhouse gases and no radioactive waste. so if we had not pulled off the stunt of getting to the moon we would have never known about the he3 and mankind would be a few steps backwards. and as someone said before that we make 30% of all greenhouse gases, we are trying to eliminate this but it will take decades to get the technology and infrastructure to the point where it will be effective enough to justify it's use. the most effective means of making hydrogen fuels is by heating and pressurizing water using natural gas so that solves no problems. but if we can do the same process with the reactor with no emissions then we have solved the first of 4 parts of using hydrogen fuels. so even though we meant the apolo missions to be a cold war stunt we can now use it to the advantage of the world/

Your sheer amount of personal freedom, excellent legal and healthcare systems and the availability of resources and manufactured goods?

Your legal and healthcare systems are a joke. The fact that the judge who is sueing that laundromat for 65 million for loosing a pair of pants hasn't been quietly taken outside and shot, and 2 hours waiting in hospitals proves this.
Your constitution is being screwed over left, right and centre. At the current rate, the USA will soon become akin to Communist China. The fact the President gained dictatorial powers proves this.
The reason you have access to so much of the worlds resources is your economic theory actively encourages buisnessmen to go off any buy up resources from the natives for the equivalent of shiny pebbles. This was discussed in the Marxist thread.
Rich man comes into a poor, subsistance farming area and buys up all the land which belongs to the local farmers. The farmers think they are getting a great deal, while in reality they are being payed far below what their land is actually worth. Rich man imports heavy agriculture machinery, kicks the former farmers off his land and turns what was their means of feeding themselves into a giant cash-crop farm. Since there is now no local food production, the former farmers are forced to move elseware.
Rich man - slightly richer, poor farmers - house and job-less

Your Space program; the greatest in the world?

Your Space Program is also a joke and your only means of delivering significant masses into orbit (the Space Shuttle) is the result of a bad compromise; it neither fufills it's role as a cheap, re-usable transport, or as a War Plane.
While the Moon landings did provide a boost too several industries, they were ultimatly a political gesture and nothing more. As soon as it was discovered that there was nothing immediatly useful on the Moon, the entire thing was abandoned.
If America was serious about the entire "Pioneers" thing, then their greatest success in Space shouldn't have ended 30 years ago; it should be happening right now.

Please tell, what benifit does blindly supporting your country give? What happens if the USA massacre hundreds of unarmed civilians, like the Chinese did? Will you still be "Patriotic" then?
Patriotism only serves to widen rifts between countries and cause fights between individuals.
What possible benifit does that bring?

You're right, Neutrino...I better move immediately. I've seen the light! I had no idea things were so terrible here. Perhaps I could live in the paradises that are North Korea or Cuba.

If we are brainwashed then who performed this great act upon our minds? Were we willing participants or were we manipulated by the media? Really, we want to believe that America is a terrible place, but somehow our thoughts were altered and now we just march to the drumbeat of USA, USA!

Once again, just like Fircoal, you speak as though you know the motivations and intentions of people you've never met. It's typical of your side to use that tactic.

Spain is better. BTW Just because somebody points out the faults of America doesn't make them think that China and Cuba are better.
