I have absolutely no clue what you're talking about. Most—hell, all sports involve racing.
Soccer players race to the ball.
Baseball players race down the baseline to beat out a throw.
Basketball players race down the court.
Tennis players race to catch the ball across the baseline.
Going further into the idea of racing is golf players racing to get the ball to the pin faster.
Sports evolved from the most primitive form of competition. It's involved in all sports. Sorry AoG, you lost me here and I don't think you can come back.

I know. I was kinda trolling, because I don't do a single one of those. But, I still think I have a point.
To me, those mentioned are very one dimensional...if you're not the FASTEST, you're screwed.
Soccer, baseball, basketball and tennis all have other parts to them that really changes the dynamic. I can attest (from personal experiences) that one single attribute in those sports does not mean you are guaranteed a win.
I think of those "racing sports" to be more activities...not sports.
Also, in MY personal definition of a sport, there should be a "score".

And killing/john, do you consider weightlifting a sport?

I ran the 100 meters in hs and tried in college... I think its one of the purest sports. The score is the time. But I will not argue with you if you call it a competition. I dunno.
The definition of sport/hobby/competition is so different per person, its hard to get a consensus.

Pretty much. I was on my HS baseball team, and we would always argue with the track team on whether or not track was an actual sport. The idiots on the baseball team would argue "but you run in circles!" (They obviously didn't realize that we ran in squares)

I consider any physical activity that requires a good use of endurance, strength, and/or flexibility to be a sport.
And yes, I do agree that 100m sprints are pure sports.

See, my usual definition decider is Merriam-Webster (I have their search box in my toolbar), but wow...
Sport (noun)
1 a : a source of diversion : recreation b : sexual play c (1) : physical activity engaged in for pleasure (2) : a particular activity (as an athletic game) so engaged in
I had no idea...

I find that's the case for many field sports (ex.shotput, discus).
Curling. Yes, I am serious.

Um well, you are claiming that if all it takes is strength or speed that's not a sport. Now you're claiming that strategy and the ability to aim don't count either?

My curling-watching for the latest Olympics consisted of my friends and I watching the Swedish womens team, complimenting most of the girls' looks, and then making fun of "Helga" aka the Big One.

Next the balloon inflators are going to be on my ass about "balloon inflating" skill not being one of my requirements. =(

Uh, maybe you don't understand curling. Personally I find it no less or more interesting than any othe sport but having tried it I have some appreciation of the fact that it requires skill.

Well it does require some strength...
I mean the curling stone itself weighs around 40 pounds.
