no points lost if eliminated BEFORE first turn

Suggestions Form

Suggestion Idea: If you get eliminated BEFORE you get a chance to take a turn (in standard and terminator games), you don't lose points. Winner would still gain points as usual.

Specifics: If you get eliminated before your first turn comes up in terminator and standard game types, you don't lose points. "Winning" points would stay the same. This would ONLY be invoked if someone had NO chance to play. .. missing a turn would "count" for these purposes the same as playing.
I would lean toward keeping assassin games "as is" because those are structured as individual games anyway. In a team game, a person eliminated is still sort of "playing" via their partner, so this would not apply. Similarly, special games like "Battle Royal" would not have this rule.

Why it is needed:

It just doesn't seem right to lose points when you don't get a chance to play even once in a "normal" game. Granted, drops are always luck, but as the games get bigger, the chance of one person getting eliminated immediately grows.

The winner should not be "penalized". In fact, I could see argument for even giving them extra points as a bonus for their "prowess", but that would be a separate idea. I don't think this small change would take a lot of effort... just a couple lines of code added to the point allocation forumlae. (if player's turn=0, then point deduction = 0 or some such).

I love this idea.....it's a way to get more points into the system but not so much that it would make everyone rank up. And yes it is tottaly unfair you get eliminated before you have your turn. Not that it has ever happened to me.

stupid idea. it boosts up inflation even more it creates even more abusing possibilities and it totally sucks.

imagine 8 friends playing together on doodle terminator. they make an agreement that the last 2-3 players depending on the order should be eliminated in round 1 by somebody. they put the plan to work and then continue the game as normal.

this way 60 free points will be up for grabs in each game they play.

assume they are of fairly equal value and the wins are evenly distributed those 8 players would get an average of 7.5 extra points per game.
multiply that by 500 games and you come up with a net profit of 3750 points for each player.
so in theory those guys would all get to 4750 points after 500 games played only with eachother.
and since doodle is so small. those games would probably be completed within 1-2 months.

For once, I agree with DiM... holy shit! I agree with DiM! It's a sign of the apocalypse!

But anyway, DiM has a valid point. Someone could easily take advantage of this and play nothing but eight player terminator games. There'd be almost no risk of losing points.

Extra points? Free points? ... how?

If you play and defeat someone, you get points. If you lose, you lose points. That wouldn't change except in this one instance ... someone is taken out before their first turn. No more gain to anyone. Less loss to the person who did not get to play, that's all.

As for folks ganging up. If folks want to, they can and will. That won't change. There won't be "free" points unless the end person is a multi. Even then, there are far greater problems from someone being a multi than this.

Bottom line, this won't be a "freebie" to anyone except the person who never got to play. I think a "freebie" in that case is only fair. For everyone else, the game stays the same.. and play stays the same.

Yes, it used to be that if a player didn't take a single turn in a game they wouldn't lose points, this was removed because of abuse.

If this has been abused before then perhaps some adjustments can be made. It doesn't mean that it's a stupid idea. In fact, I think the idea behind it is very fair.

As it stands now, if a person is eliminated before their first turn, they lose points solely for the fact that they (most likely) were just unlucky enough to be placed badly and drew the last position in order of play. Actually, on most maps, it would be very difficult to eliminate a player in the first round before they have a chance to play.

But imagine, losing points on a game where you never even touched the board!

It has the ability to be abused, but it's not a bad idea. I think it can be made to work.

If its been tried before and abused, then maybe not the best idea. I could find no previous reference to this. Maybe I was searching on wrong terms?

I actually don't see harm in someone getting an extra bonus for eliminating someone on the first round, though that was not my suggestion. I just think it stinks to lose points in a game when you don't get a chance to play. However, it also stinks to get a drop that is more or less "doomed" period -- like when an opponent gets two free continents and other anomolies. So, I guess this is another one to just chaulk up to "poor luck".

As far as "ganging up". That can and will happen anyway, whether illegal multis or perfectly legal announced truces. Multis get caught -- eventually. And folks with a HABIT of ganging up (that is, constant "truces", not just truces when strategically advantageous) end up on a lot of ignore lists. This change would not truly affect that. If anything, it would keep the loser happier.

However, as I said above, this is just my opinion. If it has been tried and abused before, then it probably will be again. If so, add this to the "rejected ideas" folder.
