Major Holidays

Postby Mr_Adams on Fri Dec 14, 2007 6:59 pm

I suggest that major holidays, such as Christmas, such bring a halt to game timers.
You should still be able to play your turns, but the clock shouldn't run down on you if you are out of town for the Holiday.

http://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewto ... =christmas

this was the thread it was suggested in before and i see andy's respone, i alse note wiki's response above but i believe there would be widespread support for a 24 suspension in attacks on christmas Day and possibly new year's day. I know we hhave many different religions and none here but this measure if it were possible would be welcomed by most I believe.

What is convenience for some is inconvenience for others. Not everyone observes Christmas. Some people aren't even on the same calendar as most people. Why should they be inconvenienced because other people didn't plan ahead when joining or creating games?

its a cool idea, but annoying for those of us who have to wait for you to come back to town to take your turns. How long could it take to take your turns? im sure wherever you are going there is internet, shouldnt be hard to spend 10 or 20 minutes doing your turns. Not trying to be mean but as has been said, not everyone celebrates christmas, and if we have to give time for every holiday some of us may never get our turns in 8)

Well they did it in the trenches in the first world war. Paul "I wrote all the beatles songs you know" Mcartney even penned a ditty about it. So why not?

how about a pause game option that must be accepted by all players of the particular game, and set for a pre determined amount of time? something like "stop clock for ____ hours"? This would be good for people on vacation too. player1"Hey guys, I'm going on vacation for a week, won't have internet access, Do you mind pausing the game starting _/_/_ ending _/_/_?"
If all players are prem, it wouldn't be a big deal....

No b/c there other options in place now and already planned for the future, like finishing off your games before vacation (i.e. not joining new ones that'll last awhile the couple weeks before you go!), and getting an account sitter for those long-term games. And in the future, we'll have a vacation button.

Not everyone can't play on the holidays, for some, it's when they can play more frequently because of time off.

If you are going to be away don't start any new games.
Or get some to account sit for you while you are away.

Except for the people who plan ahead and don't want to wait around for you.

Somebody is always taking a vacation. Some wacko group is always having a holiday. It would be chaos.

Why not have a setting/option in the game.

Let's you "pause" your moves for a set period of time (set a date/range) that you'll be away.

It should, automatically post a message in the chat thread for each game that "X" Player has paused moving in this game from "Start Date - End Date" and will be removed from the game should they not move by "End Date"

Have a limit of two weeks for the game delay.

The feature should be available from their Control Panel, so they can manage ALL their games at once, for turning on the feature and turning it off.

Also link in a feature preventing that player from joining/creating any new games if they have a "Game Delay" in place on any of their games. That way someone can't use it as a "tactic" and still play in new games.

If they make a move in a game AFTER setting the "Game Delay" feature...it automatically turns off the "Game Delay" for that game (only).

Recently, I got shipped out for work for two days...with no internet access..which of course means I can't make moves. It also means I get kicked out of a few games...but it certainly wasn't by choice...nor by design.

Even if I had gone into my games and posted a message in each one saying I'd be away...it would not have mattered for the "auto-eject" thing.

I've read about the "sub-player" option, and some other reasons why NOT to have this...but personally, I don't want someone making my moves for me...I play differently than most others.

If I know I'm going to be unavailable...I will reduce the number of games I'm in the best I can (I just did it in July)...but sometimes things come up...and this game/site would be more enjoyable knowing that when those things do come up...the games will be waiting for me.

The problem with your idea is there may be freemiums in one of the games that gets paused. They are only allowed four games, so if one of theirs gets paused, they are S.O.L. for two weeks; they could also get locked out of all four games at once and not be allowed to play a turn for two weeks.

anyway, why would someone need to pause a game in the first place, it's not like we have a weeklong holiday or something

I'm assuming <Insert Religion with weeklong Holiday> don't know how to use the internet.

I'm not talking about just for holidays...SOME of us WORK for a living, and when travelling on business MAY not be able to get to a computer or the internet where we go.

SOMETIMES we can't plan when we're going more than a couple of hours...so when the boss comes in and says "Hey, you're flying off to _______ tomorrow morning", the most time you might have is to jump into your CC account and put your "Pause" on.

For those who aren't paying for a membership, it would actually be an incentive for them to join. And it should NOT be an option for them to choose anyway. It should only be available to the Premium players as an added feature for joining.

And, it should (obviously) not apply to Speed Games.

This is the whole purpose of having account sitters, Pausing games makes no sense, most of them take too long as it is.

And again, as stated before...I don't want someone making moves for me...and what if I have to leave quick? Getting a "sitter" takes some time...it takes planning...and that's not something many of us in the "REAL WORLD" have the luxury of wasting on that.

1) don't know what was wrong with the quote...got the part i wanted in there :)
2) why is it not feesible with Freemiums? it's just a setting "on/off" thing if it's setup correctly
3) one man's rejection is another man's opportunity :D

1. There was something wrong with the quote (no ] after the opening tag), but someone edited the new version out
2. Right, but the way it's proposed it would be a majority vote, or something that's decided before the game (which isn't feesible either, as you wouldn't know when you needed vacation)
3. actually, it's the same man rejecting it
