Why not speculate on the salaries of companies employees. After all, it is just speculation. Or is the act of speculating somehow morally weighted? I often speculate on how wealthy my neighbors are, how wealthy my competition is, whether Brad really loves Angela or if its all a sham. I even speculate out loud to anyone who will listen. "Do you think that Coffee shop will be in business in a few months? I don't, they have hardly any customers." Am I on a slippery slope and in danger of faxing their daily receipts to competing businesses? I don't think so.

Speculation is morally inert, only when we bring our own value judgments to the table to we feel uncomfortable that others have crossed a line that only exists in our heads.

I don't have any problem with you speculating. I have a problem with you doing it here. Just as I'm sure you'd have a problem with me starting a thread speculating about whether or not you have issues with your sexual identity. I assure you I'm not trying to be offensive, and really don't care about said topic, but am trying to show how offensive I find this.

The problem with that example though is that though both cases involve speculation, In only one are you trying to make a judgement (or at least a negative one). Suppose I read your posts, which I have, and speculate that due to the wealth of the arguments you have presented, that you are a well meaning and educated individual, would you find that so unreasonable that I'm speculating? As far as I can tell, this subject has been brought up and the general trend behind responces is that we as a CC community believe that Lack and CC staff in general put alot of time into this website and deserve every cent they get. I'm sure that being appreciated surely would not offend Lack or co.

On the other hand if the thread started like "OMG lack makes that much? he doesnt deserve that much" this would be a different conversation, one that requires shutting down, as it is though, I don't see that this is so unethical

Once again, not 'unethical', but simply lacking in taste.

Just because people aren't reacting badly, doesn't mean that discussing it is appropriate here. Back to my example, if everyone thought that mibi didn't have sexual identity issues, would that make it appropriate to discuss?

you know, im not really surprised that ppl think they have a right to know this stuff. i run a small business and i am consistently asked innappropriate questions by customers, and they never realize how inappropriate they are being.

"so how much money do you make in a week?"
"where do you live?"
"how much money did you make last year?"

they are always surprised when i refuse to answer the question, and behave like i have offended them by not answering.

and yes, i get asked at least one of these questions at least once a week, by some drooling dumbshit that doesnt understand the concept of privacy

too late... you've already started the momentum of "the slippery slope"...

nobody can stop it now...
this won't stop at CC revenue, or even CC profit...

no, I am afraid now that we have started down this slippery slope, it will keep going even after we discover how much lack spends on turtle shell polish... oh, where will it end?

Sorry for the misunderstanding then, I had thought that you meant that discussing was unethical which I don't believe it goes into that territory. If your argument is that this is a bad place to speculate and is simply not in good taste, then I concur

yeah... I know what I said, but this post doesn't count :D because it isn't debateful in anyway

I think it is interesting that this thread has went from 49 posts to 81 posts in less than an hour! Everybody keeps posting in this thread while other threads just sit... idle and desolate.

If 20,000 people contributed to my sexual identity, then I would not have an issue with speculation on the sum total of my hormones.

it's funny that reasoned debated has brought this issue from immoral, to unethical, to just bad taste. A few more page any i will probably get a free premium.... although not after that statement.

My very first post on this called it rude and invasive. I haven't changed my opinion on that at all, so I'm not sure to what you are referring.

about that, are the comments on your site real?

i find this one to be absolutely ridiculous:

I got your Death and Taxes 2007 poster for my bf - it was his birthday yesterday, and he absolutely loved it! We could not take our eyes off it. You did a magnificent job on this, it's well put together and very easy to read and understand, the quality of the paper was impressive too."

-Vanessa from Raleigh, NC

what kind of a guy is her boyfriend if he enjoyed a tax poster for his birthday?

and what a cheapscake that vanessa is. 25$ for her boyfriends birthday? i spend way more than that for my wife and i don't have the salary people have in USA.

frankly i'd remove that comment if it were you

I suppose some people prefer less cliche'd relationships.

And my multivariate testing says that quote stays.

sure, change the subject away from your homophobia. it's nice to know that you are proud of your hatred of homosexuals. that will get you real far these days.

Seriously?

I can't believe that I spent this much time and energy trying to civilly and intelligently enlighten you as why you should stop your foppish behavior, only to find out that this was all part of some lame-ass marketing campaign.

You suck.

It seems that business is not booming for your little poster. It looked like possibly you were making some progress and getting some traffic on the site back in June, but now the sites' reach is down 26% in the last 3 months, and it looks to be a slow grind into oblivion moving forward. For just a second there, you had begun to believe that the government was terribly concerned about you, but now your site has a lower traffic rank than cheese.com.

LOL....I created this whole thread to reach a bunch of risk fans who might possibly have an interest in the federal budget.

I used to think it was all about traffic and rank also. Then I realized all the traffic in the world doesn't mean shit if it doesn't convert. So through hard work and constant refinement, my "small" traffic converts much better than my previous "large" traffic, and its this 'slow grind' that put $300 in my bank account this afternoon. So I understand where your ignorance is coming from, really, I do.

If you don't believe me, you can catch me on the Martha Stewart show in April... or Conde Nast's Portfolio in March... or my gallery show in May...

but your right, its no cheese.com

$300? Wow!

You can't even imagine the dough the guys at cheese.com are sitting on.

Personally, I am now of the opinion that you started this thread out of some sort of sad jealousy. Frankly, I'm over it. I think everyone here has gotten the message that this was a pretty tacky maneuver. Next time, just start a thread that says, "Anyone wanna buy a stupid poster?". It's a bit more genuine.

Let's get this thread back on topic...

I estimate Lack spends $80 per week in turtle polish,
and i've heard he spends another $300 per day paying pink scarved turtles to apply it...
