What are the benefits or problems of having this many people on the planet?

The benefits are that we got more people to think of ingenius ways to colonize other planets and other solar systems...

As I said before, with our current growth rates it is a mere few thousand years before humanity is using the entirety of the solar system's water.

water is a renewable resource dummy, nature does it for us, water can be recycles in a matter of months!

No, eventually all the water will be in use at any one time. It will all be being recycled or used.

Fortunately for us, there is no way we could grow enough food for our population to reach that level.

Look a few posts up. 2% (IIRC) compounding annually dosen't sound like much, but over a century or so it is quite easy to double your population. A few more centuries and a few more doublings and the population shouldn't be too far off the several-hundred trillion max population of the solar system.

Our population is growing at an exponential rate. The increases in growth are astronomical! Mass murder! Civil war! Whatever we can to bring it down!

.. Kill yourself.

...

I'm going to have to agree with Nobunaga on this one. Whatever happened to simply reducing population growth through encouraging people to have less children? Your ideas are more suited to 70 years ago. Utilize your self described prodigious intellect in the creation of some variety of time machine and transport yourself back to this time. Or, much more simply, commit suicide.

It's not that the world is currently overpopulated, but that it easily has the capacity to be.
With our currect population growth, even the resources (water) of the entire solar system won't be enough in a millenia or two.

Read the title of the poll. It asks if the world is overpopulated, not if it will be overpopulated. That's what I was responding to.

if we aren't able to lower our population or decrease the amount of people on earth (go to moon/mars), we'll reach our carrying capacity. After that, pop. crashes. People starve. Cities that have been forced into dangerous areas will be destroyed. So, suicide doesn't exactly have to happen.

Encouraging people not to have children is bullshit. No one's gonna stop me from having sex. You'd probably have to start killing people to get them to listen. Besides, why the f*ck would third world countries and people listen to us? We're having more children. In the US, Bush wants every parent to have three children. One for the mother, one for the father, and one for the "country".

Well, China just kills the extra children. Also, is Bush a moron? We have enough problems as it is. Why does he want this?

The overpopulation issue will have to take care of itself eventually.

That said, that retard with the fetish for the ginger girl should under NO circumstances be put in charge of the forthcoming ecology via killing program.

I agree, trying to stop humans from having sex is a rather futile effort.
This is where such revolutionary concepts as contraception comes in. Population growth in developed countries is already falling, despite the best efforts of their respective governments. Bring up the standard of living in their world countries and they will presumably follow suit. Of course, this would be difficult, to say the least, but at least it's a viable alternative to mass murder.

First of all, you can't combat water (your location thingy)

Second of all, I don't think that's an effect that affects all modernized nations. It depends more on what the society believes as taboo and who often they think we should have sex.

Third of all, mass murder and starvation is a viable alternative and much cheaper than trying to bring up all of the third world nations to our level of advancement.

Ah, but what do you do with the mass murdered? That comes as another question. We can't burn it, too much carbon dioxide would go in the air. We can't put them in the water, marine life would die due to all the gases. We can bury it, but we would run out of room soon enough.

I was joking. I think we should burn 'em as fuel or stick 'em in the ground. We have enough room.

You could have them fed to wildlife or cannibalized...

Burning = Mass amounts of disease would spread if not contaminated early and too much carbon dioxide.

Burying = Probably would work. We could stick a few thousand in the Himalayas.

What about some good ol' cannibalization? What about giving back to nature?
