Suggestion Idea : Place Your Armies

Postby yeti_c on Tue Jan 09, 2007 6:30 am

Suggestion Idea:

You choose your strengths and weaknesses on the board...

Specifics:

At the beginning of a game of "real" Risk you get given a set of cards where you each get an army... after that you then get to place your "remaining" troops on a territory one by one sequentially.

Comments.
- Slow to start game
- Can be applied to Freestyle mode.
- Missed turns would choose a territory automatically.
- Could have an "auto" setting where you choose upto 4 territories and the computer automatically sticks your guys down for you as the rounds progress. (advanced addition for the feature)
- Could have a Random button which sticks them down randomly.
- Choose whether enabled at beginning of the game.

Why it is needed:

More like the full game...

Priority** (1-5): 3

Next time be clear in what you are trying to say - it sounds like you are saying no to if this has been suggested before. This has been sugested before, and rejected.

Number of armies on territories

Postby Hiiiaiiei on Wed Jul 04, 2007 5:19 pm

<Subject>:
Instead of having 3 on each, why not choose where you want your armies most?

<Body>:

Suggestion Idea: have the number that would normally be down on board (or modified) in a deployment stage that would be at very beginning

Specifics: The people could place their armies where they need to (could be freestyle or sequential or even all at once). The all at once would be with a 15 min. time limit to place all armies. If the player cannot deploy all of his armies within the 15 min time limit, then the remaining ones he did not deploy would be random; the ones he did deploy would remain. The others (freestyle/sequential) could have 3 min limits. If they do not meet this time limit an army will be placed at random and go on to the next person. The army deployment would be like the deployment stage. There would be a number of armies each person gets and they would deploy their armies where they want to.

Why it is needed: it would be more fun and add a new spin to all game types

Priority** (1-5): 3

**Note**
1 = Bottom of 'To Do' list
5 = Urgent, implement with next update

It would take forever in non-RT games and add a boring beginning to RT games.

If you have an isolated territory or two, you wouldn't put any armies there - you'd only put them where you want to take a continent. There would thus be no strategy with using those extra armies and people would take continents far too easily by simply stacking all their armies in one place and walking over all of the 1s.

What if your initial troop deployment was hidden?

What I mean is that it could be hidden until all players have set up. This way, you can set it up the way you want it without waiting for everyone else to do so as well. Also, everyone else's but yours could be a neutral color so that you can't know where anyone else is.

This way, everyone can set up their initial deployment and the game starts 24 hours after the last person joins at the latest. If anyone does NOT deploy within that 24 hour window, then they can have a penalty by starting off with exactly 2 armies in each territory.

Manual Drops

Postby Jade Empire on Sun Dec 02, 2007 1:10 pm

Hey, folks. I was thinking of ways that this game could become more like the original Risk boardgame and I recognised one vastly significant difference; Randomized drops as apposed to manual ones. I think for casual games, this would be too big a task to pursue.. but for speed games, I think it's very doable. You could allow players 30 seconds each to place 3 armies on a territory of their choice in turn sequence. Another way to do it could be to have an automated random drop like we have now, except only 1 army/territory. Then the players can fortify simultaneously any territories that they wish to, up to a maximum of 4 armies/territory using an army allowance dictated by the number of players in the game. The latter idea could be done in a freestyle fashion to save time. I think it would be a very worthwhile update to the game options menu, making the game more Riskesque and balanced while giving whiny players one less thing to whine about. :)

Place Armies At Start of Game ("Manually")

Postby fordhamflash on Sun Dec 23, 2007 8:15 pm

I recall playing the Board game as a kid and sometimes we would play where we would take turns placing our armies on the Board rather than random placement.

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

If you think about it, unless you're playing an RT game, in which all players are sitting at their respective computers at the same time, it could take weeks just to place all your armies, before ever taking a single turn.

Might be an interesting thought for RT, but I don't know how practical it is for standard games.
