Suggestion: 2 Fortifications in adjacent/chained team games

Postby PsyDev on Thu Nov 29, 2007 9:44 pm

I propose there be the capability for 2 fortifications in a team game, one for forting on to your own territories, and one for forting on to an ally's territory.
In a team game with adjacent or chained fortifications, it is almost a given that you will need to do at least one fortification for yourself. However, in team games, it is a huge boon to fort on to your ally and give them a continent or strengthen them in some part. While limitations for fortifications (adjacent/chained) are good, I think it would be appropriate in team games for this to be expanded, so you get one fort for yourself, and one on to your ally.
I feel this wouldn't in any way violate the spirit of limiting forts per turn, but still allow for additional flexibility in team games. You will still only be able to do one movement within your own borders, which will effectively limit you in the intended fashion. After all, chained/fort rules are well and good, but the classic Risk game never included allies or forting on to them, so perhaps it is appropriate to consider a different rule for CC allied play.
To clarify, this would still only allow one fort within yourself, so if you don't plan to fort on an ally, you would still be limited to just 1 fortification move.
If it is deemed not desirable to have this be the "default" rule, it might be good to allow an option for this in game creation, "allow additional ally fortification."
I feel this would be a handy ability and not impinge on the fun of limited fortifications. I'm interested in any feedback people have on this.

Thank you.

ok... well, that's totally fair if you disagree, but it would be a lot more helpful if you gave reasons why you think it would be a bad idea.
