Why Vista?

Postby reverend_kyle on Mon Nov 26, 2007 3:51 am

I was watching that "Don't give up on vista" Mac commercial and I began to think. Why did Windows even release Vista? XP works just fine and it doesn't seem like vista even added that many new features.

Personally I'm thinking about going Ubuntu.

Most of the reviews have said that Vista is a horrible upgrade from XP. Sure, it looks pretty, but that's about it for Vista. It has terrible driver support, I heard thay pretty much tosses the file structure up in the air for Vista, and even the graphical interface is buggy at best. They say the serpack Microsoft is about to release will hardly do a thing for it.

Right now, as per with most tech professionals when I say this: Stick with XP.

Besides, you can make XP look however you want anyway.

They did it because they figured they could get all the early adopter's money, then double the money when they had to buy new XP licenses, and then fine-tune and fix the problems and then re-release it which then everyone would buy.

It's called bait-and-switch. Only in this case it's bait-switch-switch-bait again

You can easily make XP look however you want. I'm sure there are a couple nicely done Vista themes for XP.

in fact, here. http://www.windowsxlive.net/?page_id=15

it's free, and makes your XP look Vista.

Although, personally I think the Vista look so like 2004. But, eh, most people don't know what people are doing with their desktops nowadays.

Well, Vt did answer my question while hayes didn't. I was wondering why even release a new operating system. I'll compare it to CC. Lack only updates when he has something important that is very different. He does little stuff behind the scenes, but that is sort of like an update you can download for your XP. His new updates are sort of like new operating system. Besides looks Microsoft hasn't added anything super substantial since windows 2000 until XP media center edition. Vista really doesn't add anything to XP MCE except looking cool at prima facia.

"In fact, XP proved to be roughly twice as fast as Vista in most of the tests."

"A recent InformationWeek survey found that 30% of businesses have no plans to upgrade their computers to Vista -- ever."

I'm running on Vista and still have my old computer XP, I dont really see any difference other then the graphics and the security but both of those things can get annoying like the lag caused by the Graphics and the little annoying pop up screens asking for permision to do every thing...

I'm not asking is it good? I'm asking why release a new OS when you don't have anything cool to add.
