No, it has to be most people killed or imprisoned. Stalin surely?

I think as that reference list suggests...its kinda a three horse race. I guess for my money id go with hitler, because if the guy would have hung around or a few things gone differently in the war, he probably could have lapped the field in terms of killing people off and causing bad news.

my 123 would probably go

Hitler, Stalin, Mao

after that i think it opens up a lot to interpretation.

They were all bonkers though. Give them an infinte supply of jews/gipsies/poets/whoever and immortality and it would come down to who was most creative. Stalin was responsibel for more deaths. Uncle Joe FTW.

dont get me wrong...i think joe is a pretty strong pick and maybe the vegas favorite. But not only did hitler pack a punch, he had some very specific hate, where as joes capitalist hate is less precise.

However, i wouldnt duel you to the death on it, if joe is your cup of tea, thats fair.

Hmm, figures do seem to oscillate a lot from study to study.

I was always led to believe that Stalin had killed more people than Hitler and Mao(and by a fair margin) and that he had commited some cold hearted atrocities that would put Hitler to shame.

...i don't think we will ever know the total truth behind what occured in USSR under Stalin...isn't it funny how that "mass death" is never taught in school?

Yes he did, but the communists were better in covering it up.

Anyway, Stalin and Mao are probably the ones with the highest kill-count, but Hitler only had about 6 years as opposed to Stalin with 31

well, I reckon factoring in famine in China due to Mao various "revolutions" and "leaps forward"..., you get estimates ranging way above 70mil (Jung Halliday), stalin hanging well behind at 20. Given he had only slightly longer in power...

Hitler, fyi, did get a good 12 years in from January 33 to 45...but you make a valid point.

And how dare Simonov place the great Generalisimo Franco with scum like Uncle Joe and Hitler, and Benito (worst of the lot)

I haveto agree with Frenchie boy (no offense Napolean) that I think Mao deserves this title. I have read that some estimates not only went past 70 million, but well over 100 million.

Considering he ordered the death of most his high ranking officers just because he thought they might pose a threat to his power? Yes, much worse. But when it comes down to Mao & Joe, then it gets complitcated. :?

Keep in mind the state of China before Mao. He did a teeny bit of good.

I went with Hitler though mainly because I know the most about what he did. I could be encouraged to change my mind.

Hitler may have been alot of things, but he was in no way evil, he didnt kill 1 single soul through his entire life (other then him self)... Hitler is shown as the Evil figure that we know today because of the liberal U.S media who won the war and determined what roll hitler would play in History, and if you were to take a History course about WW2 through the perspective of Germany you will see that Hitler wanted nothing more then a perfect world with no borders .

Hitler essentially ordered the execution of every Jew everywhere.
