Should question marks only be allowed to play each other?

If new recruits were only allowed to play each other they wouldn't see what CC is really like, they'd think it was half inactive players and a bunch of idiots who don't know what they're doing. Then they'd leave the site for good. If they play people who know what they're doing and take their turns, they'll at least get in their head what CC is like and have something to work for (and stay).

?s can join and start team games, they just can't see them on the join a game or game finder screens.

I agree it can be annoying, but do you have any idea how hard it would be for a new player to play? It takes a few game to get out of :?: and if those games can be only made by :?: 's then well, I rest my case

On the one hand, I see your point. I already suspect no-class players of creating one-off question mark players to tilt games in their favor, on some occassions, more then one per game.

On the other hand, it's awfully unfair to new people, who would have a bit of a time I suspect, finding question-mark only games. I guess it's possible, but it seems unlikely that 20 new people are joining every day.

It would be nice if players could have an option to not play with them if they want, but too often they are the last person to join, so we don't even really have the choice to opt out.

There needs to be some solution however, to protect players from MixMax metality uber players, but it's not going to be easy to find the exact solution that maximized protection, while also maximizing accessibility to the newest members of the CC family...

Don't now why people on here don't like being cooks, remember under siege: A former SEAL, now cook, is the only person who can stop a gang of terrorists when they sieze control of a US Navy battleship.

Yeah, they're new players, not plague carriers. Is that any way to welcome the newbs to CC? Cloistering them in leper colonies? I learned a lot from playing with experienced players. And after I screwed up thier games I left them positive feedback for putting up with me.

Newb only games is the blind leading the blind. Take em under your wing.

many new players are fun opponents. I'd rather cookproof CC.

Certainly not.

What do you think that would fix? It would just make for an infuriating first 5 games for new users and give them an unrealistic picture of this site.

I've got a mentee right now who's a ? and a better, more dedicated player then most who have posted in this thread.

Worse case scenario: the dreaded 'noob' enters your game and deadbeats, oh no! What shall we do??? Each time his turn comes we will have to wait for it too pass?!?! How dare he HOLD UP MY GAME! Not like we don't have unlimited other ones to play (if your a free member, you have no room to complain).

Alienating new users by segregating them to play games with each other is not the key to site longevity and growth, nor to having a 'better' player-base. A site like this will ALWAYS have a high turnover rate, like all online gaming sites. Many people will sign up, decide it's not suited to their tastes and never return.

You wanna make this site better? Instead of bitching/complaining about the new guys, take a few minutes of your precious time and help one out by showing him the ropes.

Here is something you should try. I do it a lot but not as much as I use to. I pm The ? player with words of encouragement telling him it is a long process. I tell them where to go ( nicely where to go lol) in the forum to find stratigies and plugins in game chat I ask if everybody has monkey script and if they do not I tell them also where to go..

It is easy to just do nothing and complain. Why don't you help them instead of being just cursing them. Find a ? to work with. If you all took 1 new player and helped him to PFC what a site this would be..

Heck you could even help a cook - what a novel idea helping instead of gripping

As for immigration, Well I was born on a reservation. so we won't get into that subject..

definitely no! They are a source of all my points  But really, if they play with tons of other deadbeats that will raise the chance they deadbeat. Which will cause the demise of CC and loss of money to lack making the site die. SO NO!

P.S. I think it has already been rejected numerous times.

Questions like this come up in every single game that has an online community.

In order for the site to survive there must be more new players to cancel out the players that become inactive and basicly leave the site.

If you restrict to what games the new players can enter, this will discourage them from continuing on the site, then you also get a lot of discrimination forming due to a new slate on the account before said player even gets a chance.

If a trend like that begins and eventually takes over, you end up losing players faster then you gain new ones to take thier place, thus effectively killing the game in time.

I myself am a new player, so far I've enjoyed what I've seen. But the games that restrict what a new player can do just for thier sake of inexpierance I usually don't give a moments thought and keep on passing by without ever creating an account.

The alternative to excluding newer players and having a rumble with the more expierenced players is to create a private game and hand out the passwords with a paid account.

This is just a suggestion, but if you want "noobs" to play better, you could make them read the rules and sign off on them. Or perhaps help them out if you see they are playing their first game. MY first game was very frustrating (and only a few days ago) I saw armies disappearing from various countries and had no idea why. I pm'ed everyone I was playing against to ask them why and no one answered me. Finally on the third turn, one guy pointed out that if you attack a country and don't take it, it doesn't show up in the log. It doesn't point that out in the instructions anywhere.
Speaking of intructions, they could be revamped a little to make them more newbie friendly. Perhaps an example of how freestyle works? I've played the board game Risk longer than most of you have been on the planet, but that was a new concept for me. In order to get a decent map size, I finally dropped my screen resolution (that could be suggested in the instructions as well)...I could go on and on with this.
Theres definetly a learning curve here, even for someone who knows computers and war games. I think anyone who wants to restrict us "noobs" is just afraid of getting their asses kicked by someone who's only finished a couple games :P

If we want the site to grow we have to let the noobs play with the regular players. If a ? was to be in a game with 5 other ?s, the likelihood of 3 or 4 deadbeating is very high. If that had happened me in my first few games I'd have packed it in.

But I agree with the idea of making them read the rules first... even a few more of those early pms that they now get would be good
