But squad leader Lt Gorman was on edge. The immense loss of life on his first mission was starting to get to him. He began to jump upon anything said. Ripley began to stay away from him. He was slowly becoming more and more accusing of the others. Then he rounded on her. "And you, Lt Ellen Ripley, what good have you done" he shouted at her. She told him what she had been through, tried to sympathise with him, tried to make him see reason. Then he did what she thought would never happen. He shot her. It was a surreal experience, being shot. After all she had been through, and this was how it was going to end. There was nothing the marines could do. They were on their own.

That night none of the marines slept. They were all on guard, prepared, even those injured in the previous nights battle. Bishop, the android, was left to take care of Newt. This was not what he was designed for, and it displeased him greatly that his skills were not being put to a better use. Nevertheless, he set the child to sleep and went outside to see if their was anything he could do for the marines. Apart from those on guard, the remaining marines were crowded around a viewing screen. Bishop approached them and offered them his assistance. They looked at him and then Apone stepped forward. "One of our motion turrets is out of order. we need you to go down and repair it. I'll think you'll agree your the best 'man' for the job." Bishop nodded. "Take this," Apone handed Bishop a thermal detonator. "If they get in a dangerous range, press this button, and you'll have done all that you can." Once again Bishop nodded. Fearing the worst, he said a brief goodbye to Newt and the Marines and set off, down the ventilation shaft.

The Marines already knew the outcome of the mission, and none stayed to watch the viewing screen.

LSU Tiger Josh (Bishop/JOAT) has been killed by the Xenomorphs.
