**Map Descriptions**

Postby AndyDufresne on Sun Nov 04, 2007 12:43 am

This idea was brought up in another topic, but I think for the best feedback it deserves its own topic.

Idea: Map Descriptions included in the Thumbnail on the Start a Game and Game Finder screens.

Specifics: When you click on a map thumbnail, along with getting to see a larger view the map, below the image could be a small description of the map (written by the cartographer).

This description could include a small theme, but possibly some helpful insight into what gameplay would be like on the map. Things you could include (aside from a possible small themed sentence or two)
  • Number of Territories
  • Suggested Number of Players
  • Unique Game Play Features

And to throw this in, I know long ago someone suggested a "Map Rating" (perhaps based 1-5 CC Stars...) perhaps if this was ever added, it could show popularity/user approval.

What else would you like to see in a description? And on a slightly side note, would you like to see the ability to rate maps on some sort scale?

Any input and feedback is much appreciated!

This could be cool, and maybe you could rate them after finishing a game, kinda like how the feedback is displayed now.

Not sure how easy it will be to contact all of the cartographers though.

I think on the page where you can currently view each map image, along with the description there should be 6 buttons:

0 stars
1 star
2 stars
3 stars
4 stars
5 stars

and you can click the choice you want to rate the map with.

Then after you vote you will get to see how others have voted, similar to how you can see results in a forum poll, along with the total average score from all voters.

That could really help new players decide what maps to try first.

I think there should be a "see more" option that shows descriptions now that there are fifty plus maps limited players will want to pick what to play beforehand since they can only get four games going.

I would love to be able to rate maps and I think this is a good idea.

I agree completely. Especially not included with the mapmaker's description.. just imagne:

This is a specialty map made for those who like short games with a limited number of players. Rated 1 out of 10 by all CC users.

Useless.

I'd rather see the map list have an option to show maps by multiple variales, such as popularity (objective number of total games played on it), # of terits, suggested game size, etc.
